Just announced - Louisville has fired Brian Brohm…

I suspect this game was a test to see if he should be elevated to sole oc at Louisville calling all the plays!

Because his name is Brohm, he’ll be able to stay at least 5 years before his fans get tired of him. The first two years, he’ll blame Satterfield as leaving the cupboard bare. Fans always believe that BS. Then he’ll say he needs 4 years of recruiting before he has “his” team. Fans always believe that bs too. And he’ll claim this year’s recruiting class was Satterfield and not his although he’s the guy that worked behind the scenes to steal all of Purdue’s best recruits. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t sign Allen and a certain 4 star d lineman. every coach uses the same excuses for not succeeding. In a couple of years, he'll probably say Green bay has asked him to be their QB coach. he'll use that as leverage to get a new contract. I can see him getting 8-9 wins every year, and then convincing the fan base that's a great amount of wins just like he convinced the Purdue fan base that 8-9 wins was a tremendous year. He'll also have a soft non-conference schedule wotrth 3 automatic wins.

I read these posts by Purdue fans and, for some reason, they believe they have this juggernaut of a football program going back for decades, as fans should believe, but face reality. Take the Drew Brees years away, and what have they ever won? Joe Tiller was put on a pedestal for barely over a .500 record. Brohm comes along and takes you to a Big 10 championship game, and now you want to trash him.
I've always enjoyed Purdue Basketball going back through the Keady years to present. I have the greatest amount of respect for coach Keady & coach Painter, but again, what have they ever won on a national stage? A few elite 8's and sweet 16's. The last final four was under Lee Rose 43 yrs ago. So let's be real, they are just a better than average athletic program.

and Brohm was perfectly mediocre like the rest you mention.

there was a 3 way tie for first in the West. And Purdue's schedule this year was rather easy. Under normal circumstances, Iowa or UW would have played in the BIG 10 championship game.

Brohm was better than hazell, Hope, Coletta, Akers, and Agassi. brohm took the Boilers to 4 Bowl games and had a 2-2 record. He beat Tenn in last year's music bowl. Should we have expected more?

what turned off fans such as myself is brohm constantly used his connections to Louisville as leverage/blackmail against Purdue. It enabled him to receive a higher salary than many of his colleages. It is in print that when recently recruiting a player to Purdue, during an inhome, he told that player if the Louisville became open, he'd take it in a flash. While being truthful, that's not something you tell a recruit on a home visit. That recruit didn't come to purdue. he followed brohm. I don't know the truth to the story. However, that left kind of a sour taste to fans like me. I prefer ethics over won/lost records.

would we be better next year with brohm or with Walters? it's hard to tell at the moment.

Full disclosure....I'm from Louisville, and a Card fan first and a Purdue fan 2nd, I reside in West Lafayette. I fully understand fans, as yourself, with a sour taste in their mouth, but It was inevitable that the Brohm move was not if it would happen, but when. Did he do it the right way? I don't know if there is a right way, not for me to say. I hope the best for Purdue, with Walters, and would like to see this change be good for both schools. I've seen a number of your posts, and you seem to be very knowledgeable. Not saying you personally, but I don't like seeing a guy getting trashed for bringing a needed improvement and success to a program. I wish success to both programs and keep beating up on IU. Louisville actually plays them next season. Maybe that will be two losses.

It is what it is.

But there is no credible fan that believes Purdue is a juggernaut. But you have to admit hanging us out to dry for a 60 point loss is irritating at the very lest.

Which programs would you say are far above average?

I get your point, between not only coaches moving, but players moving and opting out, makes for less than entertaining bowl games. Unfortunately, the world we live in.

At what point of the season are you referring to? At the end of the regular season Purdue was alone in first. 3 teams were tied for second.

I would agree the vast majority of fans knew it was only a matter of time before Brohm left. I think I’m more disappointed with BoBO that he didn’t seem prepared to handle Brohm’s departure with a replacement already lined up. I’m most businesses, the manager should be knowledgeable enough to know if their employee is about to retire or leave. And they have a short list of candidates to succeed him. It doesn’t appear that was ever the case.

I find it humorous Purdue fans loved Brohm when he brought about 10-15 players from WKU to Purdue when he arrived. However they are upset when Brohm did the exact same thing when he left for Louisville.

I’m also a bit disappointed that BoBO allowed his brother and the other coaches to remain to coach the team at the bowl game and as prime recruiters. They were doing in home visits knowing they would be coaching at Louisville. They were being honest telling recruits they would coaching at Louisville next year. However BoBO should never approved there in home recruiting. Purdue was basically financing Louisville recruiting.

Over the years I have often said, I am not a huge fan of pass happy offenses. I would prefer boring games if they resulted in a win. I was following the Iowa Bowl game. I have to wonder if I was an Iowa fan would I be proud of my team for shutting out UK? Do I love a boring team with an awesome defense or a high scoring team? I guess I prefer the boring team. The question I now have is with Walters, will Purdue become a boring team that wins? Or will we become a boring team that loses?

I expect Louisville will average a 9-3 season for the next 5 years under Brohm. Will that be good enough? Do Louisville fans believe Brohm is the last piece of the puzzle to beat Clemson?

As I look at Purdue I see a team. Averaging a 7-5 season for the next 5 years under Walters. I see that same team with that same record coached by Brohm. In the middle of the year, I said Purdue could every remaining game on their schedule and they could also lose every remaining game. Purdue was a lot like Nebraska except we won our close games.

I wonder will 7-5 be good enough? Or will people blame Brohm and say if he were still coaching Purdue would be headed to the rose bowl. Many Purdue fans have unrealistic expectations.

I graduated from 4 different schools. My wife graduated from two. Purdue fans are no different than fans of other teams.

And when I make predictions about Purdue, I compare them to their opponents rather than their past. Purdue has beaten OSU a couple of times in upsets. The same is true about Rutgers basketball. Do Rutgers basketball fans go around saying they own Purdue? I hope not. But we have some Purdue fans who believe we own OSU football because we beat them on a special day honoring a fan dying of cancer. If you ask an OSU fan, that game was rigged from the start by the refs For Purdue to win. Purdue fans won’t admit it, but we received a lot of favorable calls and non calls that day. That game seemed a lot like a John cena wwe game! I knew who would be the victor before the game was played.

Well put. I have to agree with most you said. You made my point. Why be on Brian Brohm and wanting to ride him out of town. BoBO is the one who needs to accept some accountability. All Brian Brohm and Hagen did was make themselves available so Purdue would have some coaching. BOBO, knowing that they would be leaving should have simply said thanks, but no thanks, and could have even made Brees the interim. Louisville was faced with a similar situation, and they made a former player, and past Super Bowl MVP (Dion Branch) the interim for the bowl game. Boiler Up / Go Cards !!!

You're either all in as a Purdue fan or you're not. Congrats, you're a fan of just about the most crooked and disgusting program in the NCAA. Your prior coaches include Rick Pitino and Bobby Petrino. That tells you everything you need to know.

Personally, I'm glad to see Brohm go. He'll fit perfectly at Louisville...

Nothing we do or say will come close to trashing Brohm like he has Purdue. You got what you wanted. STF up and go back to praising your homeboy on a Lville board.

Brohm left. He hinted before the season in sort of a cryptic press conference that this year could be his last. Some fans picked up on his cryptic message and knew exactly what he was saying. While other fans called those fans idiots. Before the season started in an interview somebody asked him why he didn’t go to Louisville in previous years. And his reply was the timing wasn’t right and he made a commitment to certain players. So when Purdue won the west and AOC and Jones announced they were leaving, it was a good time to leave. Everything was in place. He accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. He couldn’t really climb much higher. He leaves before usc and ucla join the Big 10.

When he left WKU, they were upset he took so many players and coaches with him. They were initially upset, but got over it and moved on.

It’s time to say thanks for getting us to 4 bowl games and respectability once again

You failed to mention that the coached that you referred to were fired, along with the President and the AD that were that were employed then.....A basic house cleaning.

I did. They deserve everything they get. He's a disloyal scumbag. Jimbo Fisher should be fired for making that move.

If they fire Jimbo, they owe him a gazillion dollars.

Jimbo knows this.

Which is why his staff is made up of scoundrels ... Petrino, DJ Durkin, Steve Adazzio .... Jimbo is untouchable due to his contract (as long as he doesn't pull a Chris Beard and attack his wife). Jimbo is hoping he can win enough that these hires don't matter. And with Texas A&M that is more important than anything else.

Dude- read the room. It’s a joke.
Respect the Brohms, but the decision by our AD to temporarily make Brian the head coach (who his own brother wouldn’t let call the offense) , while most of the rest of coaches left to go recruit for L’ville, while poaching our same commits & recruits was both naively stupid on our part and kind of scummy on L’Villes part -

One one Brohm is coaching and seeing what is going on with our guys while likely communicating with his brother daily on those recruits and portal players. there was IMO a bit of conflict of interest there.

At the same time our AD simply had to look how the same process worked out the same when we fired Danny Hope and hired Darrell Hazzel in the middle of bowl game prep.

But I get the move why Jeff Brohm left for many reasons - he did a terrific job, and given time to prep is a master. But his OL & DL recruiting here as head coach was underwhelming (which showed vs teams with big OL’s like Wisconsin & Minnesota)- that being said he now has some fertile recruiting area in the new gig for the lineman, where as at Purdue he had some stiff recruiting competition from the Big Ten & Notre Dame.

The ACC also offers him reprieve of facing tougher elite defenses week in and week out.

Who did he bring to purdue WKU that started? Other than The Defensive coordinator’s kid, who was huge guts and heart but a small interior LB?
