If I were Bobinski I would hire Monken and run triple option. I doubt he will consider this but if he does Purdue will become a solid program. Navy and Air force would do well in Big ten.

This. The talk of triple option and hiring service academy coaches is a joke.
??? Sure bball is a different sport but a guy named Knight was a service academy coach and a good one. A guy named Lombardi also coached at West Point. Point being, Bobinski has a VERY hard job figuring WHO will make Purdue relevant again.

I certainly don't want the triple option.

Trying to run the triple option in the Big Ten would be as big a mistake as hiring Hazell!

It barely works for Georgia Tech and they are in the ACC.

The only times Tech has had a good team has been when their Defense was good.

No, for a million different reasons, no.

The best part about Bobinski being here is that he and Paul Johnson hated each other at Tech so he's highly unlikely to get a wild hair after Johnson gets canned at Tech and try to hire him here.

He's seen that old school option football isnt competitive at a high level either.

I think its a solid move to steer clear from these types of coaches.

He wouldn't be at the top of my list, but Troy Calhoun at least interests me. He has been a quality HC while at Air Force, and he's been involved with & run non-option offenses while QB coach & OC at previous stops. If he was willing to ditch the triple option, he's a guy who would at least be somewhere on my list even if it wasn't at the top.

Historically, Purdue has never been successful when emphasizing the run. Probably should have been the first flag not to hire Hazell in the first place. We had one of the best backs ever with Alstott and we were still terrible. We ran really well a few times during the Tiller era but that's because every team had to scheme against our pass game first and foremost.

he should be towards the top of the list. guy can coach any offense. he was an nfl oc then left to take the job at air force. he is a very good coach and a good offensive mind

The real key will be who can coach/adjust with our existing "talent" no whatever scheme works best with THEM and go from there.

IMO Purdue needs a system that can somewhat neutralize talent disparity's the same way Navy and Air force do.

Go look up Georgia Tech's - Navy- Air Force's records over the last 10 years. Compare them to Purdue's and then tell me if you would trade records with them? Bowl appearances? Navy and Air Force would make a bowl every single year playing in Big ten. troy calhoun would indeed be a home run hire for the Boiler makers.
