There are rumors Jacobson may be healthy enough to play in the NCAA tournament. However if he does, he loses his red shirt year. If he is as good as hyped, he might not stay all 5 years. Jacobson at 75% is better than what we have.

so do you want Jacobson to return ? Do you believe Painter would actually activate and play him just to win a tournament game ? Do you sacrifice his red shirt year for 1-3 games in the tourney ? or do you just go forward with what we have ?

personally, my choice is to go forward with what we have and allow Jacobson to heal, strengthen his body and do his practices and watch and learn.

i don't want a win at all costs mentality

Says the guy who doesn’t believe in redshirting.

This team has more diffencies than just a rim protector. Yes, that would help. We need guards to become grown men vs set boys.

Imagine having a few guys that could go and get their own shot with BS and TKR. We win a B1G and probably a top 2 seed.

No. You don’t play Jacobsen.

Well, if he is healthy enough to practice then maybe. But I doubt we are getting back to the FF this year anyway with or without him. In this instance, seems like it should be up to whatever Daniel and his family want to do. There is the experience factor that would perhaps pay dividends next year.

If he’s healthy enough ( big if) Dr’s clear him, he wants to play etc than I’m fine with it, he’d have to be able to play in some pre tourney games though. I don’t worry much about the redshirt year, he still has 3 left, that’s plenty.

What if he plays in a total of 3 games. Is that worth?

Agree, not now. Let him get healthy, work tirelessly with Harris and Cox to get better, pull in a nice 6'5"-6"6 guard with former scoring ability at his previous school and we are going to see a different outcome.
Maybe Benter will fill that role?

You risk him playing one game this year, for him to lose his eligibility. Would you play him? What’s the point?

And why would he transfer in a year or two?
He might transfer if some school offers him so much he can’t refuse. I wouldn’t play him. Point being if Purdue won’t have him for four years, might as well burn the shirt.

And what if he wants to develop at the school/with the coach (Brantley) who developed the 436th recruit into a 2x NPOTY, all time Purdue scorer and 9th overall pick? While getting paid a good chunk of change.

Would you play him if somehow you knew he would transfer out in a year or two?

No.

You keep doing what is right for the kid. In this case giving him time to heal and gain strength instead of having to get back up to game speed and health at the end of the season.

With Jacobson we are not a final 4 team anyways, so I dont see the point of rushing him back. I think taking the full year off is what is best for the player and thus we should continue to put player over program.

The fact he could transfer in the future should have no barring on the decision today.

And 5th year guys transfer way too often to even make me think he would stick around. I’m fine with him playing too.

Agree that we don't burn the redshirt but beg to differ on not being a FF team with a healthy Jacobsen...

I'm with ya. It depends on matchups. For instance there is a real scenario where we are the 3 seed with Alabama as our 2 and Tennessee as our 1. We already beat Bama, and we match up well with UT. Thats without a real center, with one even if 10-15 minutes to take the pressure off Furst and TKR I think it would be a huge help.

We lost 3 straight, but all 3 were close games with 2 of the 3 being off games for our star player and a very 1 sided whistle. Even the game against Wisky we got a pretty poor whistle although I put that game more on our D be lackadaisical than anything else.

If he's only available for the NCAA tournament I think you keep him out. Now if he's somehow ready in the first week of March to contribute I think you saddle him up.

I'm going to assume he wants to play this year. With that assumption, yes he plays if he's cleared to play. There are no guarantees of what next year or the year after brings. At worst I think we are a 5 seed in the dance. You put your best team out there and see what you can do. Even if we were to fall to a 6 seed, with the right team on the floor we could make some noise and who knows??

I’ve never been a fan of so called “throwaway” years. I agree there’s no guarantee of anything next year, including him even being on our team(no I don’t think he’s actually going to transfer). Who knows what happens if he comes back? Could lead to a miracle final four run.

Speaking of Jacobsen, does anyone know how extensive the surgery was? Just curious if it was a plate procedure or did they have to insert a rod in his leg? I would think if it was plated that he could make a 100% recovery with no lingering effects down the line.

I’m convinced it’s at least two guys posting their opinions under this profile and they have different views on things and that’s why “Wole’s” posts contradict themselves 😂
Duane!!! You should never speculate. People here harass and belittle people who speculate!

Duane, why would I bother having two accounts on this board? Think about it. You’re not worth it.

Sorry. I forgot people here look for the smallest thing to find fault with my posts! Why don’t you find another hobby other than being a grammer police woman
just a bad look when anyone can't spell the name correctly of a player on the team that one follows, ranks up there w/ the usage of axe for ask

most likely rod insertion

My thoughts based on his dad’s comments about getting him to the nba as early as possible and skipping his senior year is that he won’t transfer, but he will leave Purdue early to turn pro if he can at the earliest possibility.

Based on his dad’s comments when he signed with Purdue, I don’t think his dad wants him to spend 5 years in college.

And if he’s only going to stay 3/4 years, it seems like a waste to red shirt him.

If he leaves Purdue to go to the nba after 1-3 years, that’s a huge win for Purdue because it means more than likely that he is pretty damn good and that would benefit Purdue.

I don’t think you understand Wule.

I am saying that a lot of your posts:

1. Contradict each other
2. Your writing style/response differs greatly from post to post

But all good Wule. Always make it a fun chuckle whenever your posts come through.

I kind of have mixed emotions. We badly need someone to play center. We are allowing a lot of easy buckets in the paint and our rebounding is non existent. However 2 of our last three losses could be blamed on our backcourt .

Looking at the way we are currently playing, with or without Jacobsen, it looks like we are headed for an early exit.

And I would agree if he was activated, he would need a couple of games to get physically and mentally ready to play. Being healthy enough to play is one thing. But to really benefit and being able to contribute, He would need to play 3-5 lead in games.

So I guess my thoughts would be it would be nice to have him back, but he alone probably would not make a difference. And to be honest nobody remembers who was a sweet 26 or 32 team.

I guess we should focus on IU and not worry about the future

Jacobsen surely isn’t in shape enough to play this season
