Jacob Epperson

I would still like to think he'll be back this year to help the team down the stretch, which would eliminate the need to apply for a 6th year.
I'm with you. I sure hope he's back this year because we are so limited in depth with our bigs. His availability could mean a couple wins down the stretch that we don't get otherwise.

Plus, ever the optimist......still hoping for channeling his inner "Rutgers-like" performance in more substantial moments than mop-up duty.

February is the most optimistic prognosis I have heard from telecasts.

Which is something you clearly are not capable of being.

Painter has a good class coming in and no matter how badly you want it to suck, that just isn't the case. You come on here and spew the same unfounded nonsense constantly with all your points being refuted.

You're already writing of this class before they even play their first game and by your own comments, basically writing off this season before it barely has even begun. That is why you and posters like you can't be taken seriously because you simply are not objective due to being blinded for your biased hatred of all things Painter.

Sigh. Painter hasn't won anything of significance without top tier players (read- a top 10 class with multiple top 50 players). The 2017 class is perhaps 30th or so in the country without any highly ranked guys.

You can think I'm not realistic, but that is exactly what I am. You may not like it, but Painter hasn't fared well with guys ranked like the 2017 class is ranked. Could that change? Sure, but not likely as we've seen 12 years of this now.

Go ahead and get angry, call me a hater or whatever but you can't refute any of that. I've seen nothing from you based on data or facts, just spewing hatred for those who believe Painter has had his chance and we should move on. I don't expect your nasty posts based on nothing factual to change now either.

Actually I can or rather others already have refuted pretty much everything you posted.

Your problem is you ignore what others post and don't even bother to give credit to Painter when it is deserved. Eastern is a high recruit and he fared just fine with him. What you mean to say is he didn't fare well with recruits you think he should of gotten. You have this self-entitled mentality about you and I have news for you, you aren't even remotely as qualified as you think you are in terms of critiquing Painter let alone any coach for that matter.

You call yourself a realist but in order to be a realist you need to be objective and you are far from objective. And don't kid yourself, I am not angry at you or anything. I would have to take you seriously for that to happen, but since I know you aren't capable of being realistic or objective, everything you post is taken with a grain of salt. This current back and forth we are having is nothing more than to continually point out how out of touch you are with things. As soon as I click to reply, I won't think anymore of it because you aren't worth the time.

There is some reality for you.

We're not even obligated to give him a 5th year, let alone a 6th, see Spike.

On the flip side, he may decide to leave on his own as a grad transfer to get more PT, like Sandi did.

We are not obligated to give him any more than the one year scholarship to which he signs. Unless the legal and binding scholarship form for a basketball player has changed at Purdue, it is for a 12 month period of time. But doing what is "right" vs what you are obligated to do are two different things......

I personally don't have a problem with cprh9u's posts. Are they jaded views? Perhaps. But he doesn't engage in childish behavior like some *cough* Kessel *cough* and if there is one thing he is, it's consistent.

I don't remotely agree with him, but he is entitled to his opinion just like you are. And if we all agreed with one another, what fun would that be? :)

Life is entirely too short to take anything written on here so seriously that it impacts you personally. If it does, then you need to step back and evaluate things and go have a beer.

Or some smelt..... I'm still craving that....

And Biggie is one of those loaded players. Remember, he was 17 at a portion of time last season due to reclassifying. He is still only 19 and has shown immense improvement from one season to the next. If he can continue the trend of 20 and 10 games and eventually end the season sniffing 16-10-4, he will be a first round pick. Not many guys in the last 10-15 years in college basketball can claim those numbers...and those that have are usually picked in the top 15 places.

The knock on Biggie last year was his apparent disappearances at times last year and his weight/lack of mobility issues. I think those, at least the weight/mobility issues have been cleared....let's let the whole season play out to see where he progresses on the court skill wise. Right now, there aren't much better ball players at the 4/5 position in the country.
Duke & Kentucky alone each have at least 3-4 guys on there teams now that will go ahead of him... Heck IU has 3 guys that will probably go ahead of him. I'm love Biggie, I'm just not sure his game yet translates to the NBA. If he shoots under 30% from the arc, It's going to hurt his stock. He's not going to grab 20 boards in the NBA. He needs to show that he's a forward & can play on the perimeter. In the small sample size from this year, I still haven't seen it.

Draft position is not a concern...he simply wants to get to the League and get to a second contract as soon as possible(if he can), but he wants to play professionally in some form or fashion and get paid regardless ...may not be the best logic, but it is what it is...he nearly left this year when there was a better than average chance that he would not even get drafted.
How do you know that? Do you know him personally?

I don't believe it matters where he is "projected" to go in the draft this year. It brought him back for this season, but won't keep him for another. 1st round,2nd round, D league or Europe he is gone.
Again, I ask, how do you know that? If that were true, he would have been gone this year.

It's a message board. I don't "know" that he is going to leave any more than you "know" he won't. If all we did was post absolutes it would be a pretty quick read each day. You can keep hoping he is going to stay another year, no harm in that. I will continue to say and believe he is gone. You don't have to do anything but read his comments from this past pre-draft to know all he wants to do is make a roster. With the bar set that low it isn't much of a stretch to anticipate with his improvement this year he will be leaving.

Maybe you should start a poll and ask those here: As of right now, is he gone or not? I'm pretty confident the vast majority would say gone.

Based off past comments he has said, I think he is wanting to go after this year. He certainly is playing like he wants to go IMO as well.

But there is so much basketball to be played that all could change before the year is out.

Yes, the situation could change.

This was started earlier in the thread where someone listed the roster for next year, suggesting there wouldn't be a scholarship for Epperson. I simply said that Caleb is gone so there will be at least 1 open spot. I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me. I would just suggest that they are wishful thinking.

I got ya. I'm really hoping he goes, just simply because that will mean he had a good year. Which means we may of had one as a whole as well.

Nice post. I think the issue people have with posters like cpr is that they are unlike any Purdue fan you meet in person. With the constant negative slant against the coach, players, team, tourney history, etc. it leads people to think of 2 things: 1) it is a troll pretending to be a Purdue fan or 2) the person is using the board for their personal constant venting. Neither option makes for reading pleasure for others on the board. I'm all for different opinions and healthy discussion but you have to admit there are several on the board that dilute any interesting bball conversation.

Taylor will get healthy and play at Purdue later this season......can't wait!

Biggie will go pro after this year.....

Epperson or someone will be signed in the Spring of 2017 and it will be a Center or PG.

That's my Crystal Ball......agree or not but don't care either way.

Boiler Up.....always support Purdue positive!

I absolutely agree with you. There is a constructive way to have differing opinions and several on here just seemingly want to flush every thread they can.

Spot on.

It's funny how a few "experts" throw a number next to a player, and everyone loses their mind when we don't get a high number or get low numbers.

The realistic truth behind it all is, most players ranked 10-50 are pretty interchangeable, and 51-150 are as well. You have your players who are skilled, polished players, who don't really have a lot of room for improvement, but you get what you see, solid, smart players who have good all-around game (Dakota). Then your players who are very raw, make bad choices, but are athletic as all hell where the sky is the limit (Oladipo).

Unfortunately, we've had some misses on some high ranked players, and our unranked guys didn't pan out. But Eastern is the real deal. I wouldn't be surprised to see his status rise in the rankings. Wheeler is another one whom, after doing a little more research, is without doubt going to rise. You can't put a price on a 6'7 wing who can do it all, like VE. I'd say Haarms and Ewing are projects, so we'll see how they pan out. At the very least, they're big bodies to plug in while Haas takes a break every now and then in the post his senior year.

I'm not sure Taylor will return. Let's hope so...
CS is gone for sure, unless something totally unexpected happens.
Epperson would be a nice pickup, but I feel like we need a bruiser of a PF for rebounding more so than anything else for next year. Can you imagine us without Biggie's rebounding this year and next. I can...and I don't like what I see. I also see Haarms as center for us. A PG for 2018 but not next year.

Painter is certainly recruiting as if he's planning on someone being gone, though there are obviously more candidates than just Biggie for that.

Totally agree with all this , he wants to be elite and there's nothing wrong with that

Epperson visited Creighton on 2/28 and now all the predictions point at Creighton. I'd say we need to work on Ondigo more than Epperson cause I still somehow have some hope with Taylor. I don't know what I'm talking about, just ignore me. I think Ondigo might have more potential for us to dig.

I'm not sure who else from the current team would want or need to skip out? Taylor is the only guy I can see CMP simply saying...we are going to defer your scholarship to an academic one and pull it for another player due to injuries and make him a manager type in the program. Honestly, who else would skip out at this point? It just doesn't make sense for any of the juniors considering they all either start or will start (Haas) next season. It doesn't make sense for Cline considering he is now starting...and it certainly doesn't make sense for Carsen considering he'll probably start next season or be the first off the bench like he is right now.

Only thing I can think of is that if you look on the commit list, Rivals no longer lists Ewing on our page. He is still on his personal rivals page but not on Purdue's 2017 Commit List with the other four players. Anyone have any inside information on that?

Ewing is a JUCO, so perhaps he is listed as a transfer? Or as a 2015 recruit.

Not sure where you looked but on Verbal Commits - he doesn't show as an incoming freshman. He is in the same class as Cline and Biggie
