A friend just posted this: "When I told (Tom Izzo), he was just so excited. He kind of cried a little bit. I was like, 'Dang, Coach, I just saw you at the Hall of Fame, and you're going to cry like that'"
Jaren Jackson Jr., on telling MSU's coach he was committing to the Spartans. [The Detroit Free Press, Friday, 9.16.2016]

You forgot that you have to actually be able to sell to sway kids so easily. Otherwise any old mediocre coach could pick up 5*'s.
I've said in this and other threads today that Izzo is a very good salesman. I know you hate CMP, but Izzo gets the better of many coaches not just ours. I didn't forget anything.

You said kids are easily swayed. My comment is that they are not easily swayed by our coach.

I do not hate CMP. He's simply mediocre. I want more for my school as we have NO REAL REASONS not to be great in basketball. We only have excuses. Football...well...I see the opposite as true.

These type of comments against Painter pretty much lose all credibility. All of Painter's records, stats, etc show the one thing he is not is mediocre. Just because you think so doesn't make it true.
His NCAA Tournament record makes it 100% true. You judge him by your standards, and I'll judge him by the rest of the country's standards.

Ask anyone, in any bar in the country, who finished 3rd in the B1G last year. Now...ask that same person who U Arkansas-LR upset in the tourney last year. Draw your own conclusions.

Are you really young? Not a insult just ask

Come on, you know that's exaggerating. Most people outside of Indiana probably wouldn't be able to answer either one. Could they also answer who Middle Tennessee State, Hawaii or Stephen F. Austin upset? I bet you have to look it up to remember.

Yes, the tournament is important, but to minimize the regular season is not fair.

You now play the regular season to set youself up for the tournament. You can hate it. But it's the world we live in.

First of all, you don't speak for "the rest of the country".

Second of all, I'm willing to bet that most people wouldn't give a damn about either one. We get sucked up in this little world on a sports message board but most people don't follow sports very closely, if at all.

From my perspective, I couldn't tell you the name of the team that upset MSU last year without looking it up. Really not as big a deal as you think it is.

I don't hate it. I love the tournament. I take Thursday and Friday off from work that first week. The difference is I don't judge our season SOLELY by how we do. Partly, yes. Completely, no. There is just too much randomness with a one and done tournament. Just ask Cal, WVU and MSU (from my earlier question).

We simply disagree on how much weight we put on the tournament to judge our season. Yes, I was crushed sitting there in BWW watching us lose to ALR. However, I was also thrilled many times in Mackey during the season watching them win all but 1 game. It was also fun watching them make it to the championship game of the B1G tournament.

I just refuse to let one game ruin 5 months of great entertainment for me. You do. We will have to just agree to disagree.

And the fact is most people can't remember the 4 teams in the final four last year let alone 2 years ago.

Right. Meaning kids who eat, breathe and live the current game -- admittedly in their young lifetimes -- can barely distinguish between MSU, Duke, Kentucky, NC, etc. and us.

I don't think anyone is saying that. You just listed 3 programs that are historically at the top of NCAA basketball (MSU in the past 15 years or so). I haven't seen anyone on here try to compare us to these programs. The point that was being made is there are far more programs that we are comparable to or even better than. Some put all the emphasis on the tournament and when you do that there are going to be just a very few programs that measure up.

Izzo, Crean, and even Calipari all do this-they cater to these kids, in an extreme way. It's a bit disgusting in my opinion. Crean on file acknowledged he cried on the phone when Zeller committed. I'm probably a bit too old school (Knight/Keady) who would never tear up if a recruit committed with them on the phone. II'll probably throw a party when Grandpa Izzo retires.

Until Izzo is in the HOF nursing home with, Coach K and the rest of the gang, I see it being tough for Painter to elevate his recruiting until he has sustainable success in the tourney. Maybe a Cuonzo back on the staff for recruiting purposes could help as well :D

Izzo always cries when a good recruit commits. Harris and Dawson both said he cried on the phone when they committed.

Wonder if he cries when they get in trouble for smoking pot, hitting women, or carrying a gun illegally?

Did he cry when he tried to change his kid's middle name from Mateen to Draymond to the next star Spartan citizen?
