First and foremost, POTFH.

Secondly, and this is just for shits, giggles and conversation, does iu pasting the Boiler football team have any relevance to Friday's game? I'm sure the students wll remind the players during the week. Maybe some football players say something to the Bball players in the weightroom or at training table. With Painter being a proud Purdue alum, I'm sure he too was discussed and embarrassed about the Bucket game.
The fans certainly will be out for blood and Mackey will be lit, but

IU can post all they want about football. They finally have a decent season and can flaunt it, that’s fine. But we all know it kills them that Purdue has been that much better than them at bball over the last 3 decades (IU has 4 second weekend appearances in that time span).

Doesn’t change the fact that their bball team got blown out by the most combined margin of two games in the history of the rivalry last year in 90 years.

It’d be great to see Painter leave starters in like Crean did when IU won by 37 at Mackey and have Purdue win by 40…but paint is a lot more classier than that as a coach. And let’s just say he did do that, IU fans all over would complain, but also rejoice, as it would bury Woodson.

I don’t think painter will do that. Too classy.

Normally I would say we match up well against indiana. But not this year. I don’t think we will stop ballo unless we get him in foul trouble. Or we just run and gun and wear him out. We might have to use the Hurley strategy and let him score 30 and take everyone else out of the game.

Don't want Woodson buried. Want him to be good enough to just keep hanging on. That program will never win anything big with him in charge but they might get one of these hires right eventually. Outside of when they play us, I'm hoping they win a bunch the rest of this season.

He's done no matter what. His time is over after the season.

Ballo will get his in the paint same way Golden and Wolf did last night. The key is to disrupt him by throwing doubles and getting out in transition. Also, Painter will throw TKR on him to see if he will pick up some cheap fouls and neutralize him that way.

Ballo’s doesn’t have the ability to get up and run for 30+ minutes.

Last thing - they play Sunday before getting a couple of extra rest days before they come to town.

Play the same way we just played michigan and their bigs

Even when they make a good hire, their delusional fan base will eventually run him out of town. The landscape of the B1G specifically , and college basketball as a whole, has changed so dramatically since the 70s and 80s, that it’s impossible for any coach to even come close to what Knight did.

Because of the TV money, you now have 17 other programs, all across the country, with great players, coaches, support staffs, facilities, etc, and no one will ever dominate the conference again, like Knight did at his peak.

💯 Ballo will get his, but it’s more due to him being the definition of “good cuz he’s big”. Not much talent outside of that with posts moves and he tries to do a floater that is god awful looking (I’m sure he will hit 3 of them now that I say this). But yeah he will tire out quick. His stamina isn’t great at all.

I’m sure Gallo will try to run the PnR and try to throw lobs a lot with him, so hope we can cover that.

IU continues to give up wide open looks from 3, no matter who they play. Hopefully we knock em down in Mackey.

But first, they must get past Queen and Reese. Those two are going to rack havoc on IU’s front court. Beef, you ask in another posting reneau starts…I think Queen and Reese force Woodson into having to play Ballo and Reneau at same time.

When was the last time Indiana made a good hire though? Sampson ran himself out of town and Crean was just okay but burned too many bridges behind the scenes and around the state.

You would think that a school that claims to have a good basketball program would not be so consistently terrible over and over again about hiring coaches.

Well they COULD have hired a good one.

When they fired Crean, they probably could have gotten a Dana Altman or Greg McDermott, but most of their fans still wouldn’t have been satisfied with their performance.

A ar as I am concerned, we did y'all a solid this year in the IU-PU game. So y'all owe us.
I’ll tell you what we “owe” you tools:

Purdue owes IU a couple emasculations on the level that Savior Cignetti visited on Walters last November…

You want Woody gone? Fine— have him and his team quit the way Walters did against your in-state rival.

Let’s bury them. If it means that Woodson gets fired for getting buried by his in state rival, so be it. Their athletic administration has done such a bang up job in hiring head coaches at Coaching Buyout U, I am not worried about who they would bring in.

I would love Braden getting his first triple double, 2 alley-oops, 50% from 3 and a Waddell slam.

The team quits in most games anyways 🤷

Problem is, Cream was fired and Buckner wanted Woodson hired then. Glass went behind everyone's back and hired Archie, gave him 4 years to do nothing. Then it was Stevens or Woodson. And so Woodson gets 4 because Archie got 4.

I can 1000% guarantee Stevens will be offered again. Will he take it? 20% chance. I'd like Beard but I don't think the admin will allow it. Honestly could go get a cardboard cutout of Knight and do better than Woody. McDermott and Dana could have done pretty good at IU I think. Or John Beilein(who also could have had the job over Sampson but the AD wanted a black coach... Which Sampson isn't black either but the AD was as stupid as could be). The administration has screwed the program for 25 nows. They should have let Mike Davis go after his interim year and hired Pitino.

Not sure who is the right hire. Beard would right the ship fast but the domestic abuse stuff is a hard pill to swallow. Yes, charges were dropped but still tough.

I don’t think Brad would take it either. Why ruin a cushy job that he has?

You honestly need a Beard/Underwood type who demands accountability and is wired not to take the BS from the players or alumni.

I’d say -20% chance Stevens takes it

20% is pretty realistic. That's still 80% he doesn't. CBB world would probably crap their pants if he did. Depends on the wifey and if he wants to coach again.
No man. Lol. Why would he come back and coach? He’s been out 12 years and won an nba championship with the most prestigious organization in the highest league of his sport and he has a great young core to keep competing at that level. And he gets paid tens of millions to not have to stress about game planning for the other team, doesn’t have to recruit high school kids, deal with parents or even deal with NIL.

But yeah, there’s a 20% chance he’s going to come back to a higher stress, more demanding job at a lower level that’s completely different than when he was coaching over a decade ago because…it’s IU? Is that right?

He still has an insane amount of stress. That has never went away for him. He's still gotta worry about winning or getting fired. Still has to worry about a lot more egos and way bigger egos. Gotta worry about contacts, years, signing, waiving dudes, the g-league, drafting etc. Could he wasn't too coach again? Maybe. I don't talk to him. I'm not sure what he makes as GM. I know Indiana offered him 70M. They'd probably do that again. Gotta focus more on the wife though.

Still sounds like less stress than coaching and recruiting in college.

Yeah they offered him that the first time and he didn’t even entertain the offer. Being 12 years later, why entertain coming back to Indiana?

If you want to talk about his wife, why would she want to go to Bloomington? She’s from Ohio.

12 years? You mean 4? Indiana offered him $70M before going to Woodson. He definitely thought about it. Rumor is Ferguson ruined it by disrespecting his wife(who is also his agent). I thought they should have fired Crean after year 3 and hired Stevens when he was coming off the back to back title appearances. Still would have gotten Zeller and Yogi but maybe could have gotten a Gary Harris and Glenn Robinson with Yogi.

No, 12 years since he coached. And he didn’t even listen to IU 4 years ago.

Most Kids these days have no idea who Stevens is. NIL has changed the game and he would have to switch up everything he knew and was successful at and the IU faithful would NOT tolerate that…especially if it took 3-4 years to get to the second weekend.

What makes you think he thought about it? Here’s what he said.

"I said it the other day: I'm not [considering it]," Stevens said last month. “And I tried to say it as clearly as I could…”

No no! It’s IU! Don’t you know?! Who wouldn’t want to step down from the pinnacle of the industry you’re in where you’ve been very successful to a lower level where you have to work so much more?!

As GM he has ability to fire coaches and coaching staff when things aren’t working which buys him an additional year or 2. Being the coach in college again, bullseye is square in his back.

Curious about his wife being his agent. Didn’t know that.
