This relatively good natured trash talking is great. Has me laughing š
Smith was asked to do way more. Yogi was able to play next to another point guard and an insane shooter in Hulls. Smith doesn't have that. Yogi got to play with the best defender in the nation in Dipo. Smith didn't get that. Yogi got to play with the perfect stretch 4. Smith didn't really get that. Only similarity is that both got to play with great centers as freshmen.Yeah the damn jump pass is what plagued Ivey tooā¦especially vs St Peters.
But agree on smith being successful as long as itās not more than his ability. And not saying he will be better than Yogi, but still impressive that his stats for a ālow/un rankedā recruit were so high. I guess Purdue may have asked more of smith than IU asked of yogi his Frosh year, tho.
Yep. And it was pretty amazing how successful he was at doing it and not being a highly ranked recruit at all.Smith was asked to do way more. He played well. Also a WAY different Big Ten. Yogi got to go up against Aaron Craft, Keith Appling, Trey Burke, Ben Brust, Mike Gessell(also a frosh), Tracy Abrams and Andre Hollins. I don't think the Big Ten had that kind of point guard talent this past year. AJ Hoggard, Boo Buie, Jahmir Young, Tony Perkins. Having Xavier Johnson get injured didn't help any. The Big Ten was a bit star studded back then too. Last year it was of course Edey, TJD and Murray. 12-13 was Zeller, Dipo, Burke, Hardaway, Harris, Payne and a couple others in a league with 3 less teams.Yep. And it was pretty amazing how successful he was at doing it and not being a highly ranked recruit at all.
Ok, but youāre gonna tell me the stats he had and how well he did for not being ārankedā wasnāt impressive for a top 5 team?He played well. Also a WAY different Big Ten. Sure he did well. But the stats don't tell the entire story. Yogi was able to get his stats on a note talented team and was a much better defender than Smith. The stats might be identical, the eye isn't. And that's fine for a 3 star that was just inside the Top 200. But he was also one of the biggest problems for Purdue last year. Maybe things that'll be fixed this year. Gotta be able to stay in front of more athletic guy guards.Ok, but youāre gonna tell me the stats he had and how well he did for not being ārankedā wasnāt impressive for a top 5 team?
TJD was a very good player. He was also the most protected player in the BIG.Beat IU with your backups? Does that mean you guys are finally going to unleash the Ethan Morton offense barrage on IU? Well that could change things. -- just remember; basketball genius Archibald Miller really wanted Morton at IU.
PS: I've read this board enough to have learned that TJD was an over-rated, one-handed, bad attitude player. So without that guy?
There seems to be a typo in your post. Did you mean to say, "Yogi was able to get his stats on a not talented team..."?Sure he did well. But the stats don't tell the entire story. Go SOX!!The IU threads starting early, even exhibitions I see. IU wonāt be that good this year, why some worry about what theyāre doing daily is odd to me. Look, I understand theyāre Purdueās rivals, however, it seems like some of our fan base hates IU more than they like Purdue. From IU sucks at football games to the non stop posting by some on here, I hate to say it, sometimes we do look like little brother. Being a die hard Sox fan itās the same way with the Cubs, I guess Iām not a hater fan, I worry about my team, donāt care much what the other does unless Iām gambling on or against them, in IUās case, especially early bet against!
