Braden Smith should be hunting threes.

Loyer still turning down looks. One was about 3 feet from Painter and I think he was told about it.

Heide pretty much won us that game. Really nice to see he and Colvin coming around. Weird that it happened while losing 4 of 5 but whatever.

Now put this all together and see what type of run you can make.

I agree. I am literally screaming at the TV. SHOOT IT!!!. Especially Loyer.
Agreed. I can recall at least 3 diff times where smith as abo it to shoot but passed to furst and Loyer did it once too.

I would much rather them shoot an acrobatic or maybe not so great shot over passing to Furst to try and score. It may technically be the correct read/pass, but at this point, Furst isn’t going to score or shoot it.

I wish Loyer would let it fly when he has less than 3 ft of separation from his man. If he misses a few, So what? He’s one of the top 3pt shooters in the country

Passing to Furst.... underneath might be the most unproductive play we have. 80% of the time either a TO or if somehow he does manage to get one up...a missed shot & going the other way. If fouls are called....those foul shots are iffy. I can only remember a very few occasions where he amazingly has scored in traffic.

We need his D. He does that well. But find someone else underneath

It’s hard to believe a former Mr. Basketball has so much trouble scoring after being in the system this long. A player has to be able to score to get that award so it’s perplexing on what the issue is.

I'd argue it was Smith, TKR and Heide, with a sprinkling of Loyer, Cox and Colvin and perhaps a smidge of Harris, Furst and Burgess.
I understand what you are saying. It was the main two and others chipped in towards the W. Cam was big on the boards. Myles, Fletch and CJ added some positives as Myles and CJ were more aggressive offensively which forced UCLA to worry about a couple of others. BTW, Myles putting the ball on the floor and dribbling into a pullup reminded me of him in high school...and obviously something he is capable of doing because UCLA is stingly on D. Wish Purdue could get 6 points or more out of Caleb...and that Caleb can drive the ball into a scoring position.

I have typed a few times over the years about going 15 feet with one dribble. Last night Trey went 20 feet with one dribble and that explosiveness is hard to defend...maybe I can spot it on Video and TExas can provide it for all to see. Trey has good footwork inside and showed a good first step in that 20 foot drive with one dribble.

His athletic ability and need to score enabled him in high school. His mechanics are not good and he has "less" need (but boy would I love to seem him get proficient in scoring) today than in high school.

Great job by Cam. There are games were Colvin also showed great flashes of determind rebounding and other non scoring contributions. My question is this, as sophomores how do they not yet know that this effort has to happen close to 100% of the time to really contribute? Even if the shot is not going down? I am sure teammates and coaches see these flashes of effort and determination and coach this consistency , but it just does not happen. When will the light go off?

Agreed. Almost shocked if he does score.

I absolutely agree, but thought the coaches could have worked on his mechanics for as long as he’s been in the program.

Loyer was staring at Painter who was saying something to him as the play went on, after Loyer passed on the three.
