Is the mic for the ref during video reviews new?

First, the mic reminded me of the old Bob Barker Price is Right microphones.

But, I like the idea of sharing what is being reviewed and the result. Kinda like they do in football.

Does that go out over the Public Address system too or is that just for TV? Inquiring minds want to know.
 
It is, I was seeing it in some games during the week. I think they took it from the NBA who has been doing that the last few years with their replay system. It works a whole lot better than going to each bench AND the TV crew to explain the ruling to all sides. And yes, I'm sure it's live in the stadium as well.
 
I just saw it for the first time a week or so ago at an SEC game that time with no camera on the ref making the PA announcement. I like the comment "in your kitchen" yesterday when we got a close up of the ref making the announcement.
