I think a better argument would be who was more "dominating."
Example is Shaq. Nobody makes the argument he is in top 5 player ever. Most dominant however, is different.
He had opposing coaches scheming both offensive and defensive game plans built specifically around him and he still couldn't be stopped.
That 2001 run where they swept the West and dropped only 1 against AI and the 6ers, he was as dominant I have seen anyone.( I never saw wilt). They rolled the ball out, Shaq got 35 and 15 and it was all over but the final score.
I think Zaq is more dominant that Shaq was at LSU and it isn't close, I'm not saying he will go the L and dominate like Shaq did but Zaq is like nothing I have seen since Duncan. And Zaq better than TD was at Wake. Miles better than Shaq at LSU.
His base is immovable. He's so strong he just gets what he wants on two or three defenders. His strength in his lower body from being on ice skates instead of practicing fancy dunks and standing under the rim made him unmovable which is why he draws so many fouls.
And shout out to Matt Painter who has added small wrinkles to the offense every game. Not new motions really, but he is putting Zaq in the decision role much more.
Running pin downs and weak side screens when Zaq has the ball. Not for him mind you, but for shooters and cutters. He is becoming quite a nice high post passer.
He doesn't have to shoot many threes at the next level. Just be able to make them enough to keep defenses honest during. Screen and roll.
And another shout out quick to Brandon Brantley. What he has done with Zaq, Big Cat, etc is amazing. We are where Bigs come now. I don't think the importance of this can be understated for our success going forward. It may be a 3 and D game now but post players will never fully go out of style. And after Zaq watch there be an increased desire for traditional posts again.
And while I am here, He can absolutely play at the next level I am convinced now.
I had Nuggets season tickets for over ten years before I moved. I went back to Denver for Game 2 of the Finals. I know the NBA game better than college. I have seen plenty of tall stiffs have more than a cup of coffee in the new era. He's going to be a problem for other defenses too. How is a 6'8" - 7'0 stretch 5 going to hold him up in the block? Double teaming is out of the question in the NBA. Especially since Zaq is selfless.
I love the idea of a team drafting him to run with the second unit. I would love nothing more than the Denver Nuggets get him with the 1 rd pick in the mid teens they acquired via trade. They already have their defense based around a slow footed center (who also happens to be the best player in the L and arguably purest basketball player ever) in the high post with multiple low block post ups.
He would learn so much from Jokic and giving Jokic someone who can take minutes on defense for him would keep him fresh and out of foul trouble always. Now I am actually rooting for this.
