Iowa

Wow, this significantly alters the complexion of the game. He's the only respectable big on their entire roster. Any idea how this might affect the line, Chi? I can see them throwing a gauntlet of guards at us all game, and several of their guards have good size.

Looks like Ladji Dembele is their only other big that gets consistent minutes, but he doesn't have a whole lot in the way of stats. The other guys 6'8" or better - not named Payton Sandfort - have played a total of 180 minutes this season.

Freeman missed 2 games earlier in the season but they were both Iowa blowouts anyway.

There's a good chunk of the Iowa fanbase that thinks that he was transferring anyway and now he is using this injury as an excuse. I have no idea if that is accurate or not, but their Rivals board is kinda in a bad place right now.

Big break for Purdue here.

Do they put Payton Sandefort at the 4 and make Furst gaurd him? Iowa hitting 15-20 3s is how they win. Do they have a gaurd that can't shoot that Furst could give the Ty Rogers treatment too?

Might need this to be a big Heide/Colvin game if Purdue is forced to go small.

Trap week for our Boilers. Away at Iowa and at home Friday vs SC, before their toughest part of the schedule. Hopefully they are dialed in to these two must win games. Probably need to be 11-2 heading into the last 7 games, against the league’s best and on the road, to have a realistic chance to win the crown.

Curious to see if we find our shooting again as 3s have been hard to come by.

Need to battle on the boards so we don’t give them second chances threes.

Also, think this is a game where we have to push the pace and don’t ease up.

They made as many threes just against Nebraska as the last five games, combined.....ouch.

Since Nebraska game - Purdue as a team is 19/71 or 26.8%. On the road (2 games - 5/25 or just 20%). They definitely need to shore that up as soon as possible - they are getting good to decent looks - a few forced.....but it has been a collective slump lately.

On the bright side - Loyer is holding steady and Harris is trending up.

CJ Cox during that 5-game span is 1-5 (no attempts against Oregon nor Indiana)..... would like to see a few more attempts from him in a perfect world.

This game scares me some. Seems like there are signs of trouble for Iowa. That said, the type of game where some Hawkeye steps up and plays the game of his life. And then has zero points the next game after us. They are 11-2 at home. As said earlier, we need to get back to making some 3s to open the inside up. Go Boilers!

A few years ago Purdue had great three point shooting and it went downhill later in the season. Some may be tired legs and recent travel.

I agree about trying to getting CJ a look or 2...especially early in the game just to see if he's in flame thrower mode. If he makes his first you go to him again, but if he doesn't then you just let the opportunities come within the normal framework of the offense.

I would like to see Cox with the ball more and Braden playing off ball. Run some motion and don’t just PnR all the time.

Push the ball and get Heide and Colvin some easy baskets at the rim when they are in the game - may help them get going
I am in the camp, that is a little worried of this game, even without Freeman for them. Iowa is a good home team, doesn't play a lot of Defense, but can get hot on offense. It also worries me that their star is gone for year and if rumors are right-forever. We saw last year against OSU what happened with new coach stepping in and this is similar. I could see a rallying cry for Iowa, of a selfish player left them and they will show the world they are better without him.

Great tickets and prices available if you can make the trip over to Iowa City.
Furst of all, this game will be the battle between Cox and Dix, since Freeman is out the emphasis will be getting the ball into TKR. If the 3 point shooting is still off it could be a game where we are trading our 2's for their 3's but even if they are hot from 3, I can't see that lasting the whole game. Our D has been good at forcing TO's but Iowa's O doesn't turnover the ball much, so something has to give in that respect. I'm sure Harding will " try" to upstage Braden, whoever is guarding Sandfort and Dix will have to stay on them and hopefully any help D will not let them 2 wide open, This game can play out similar to the game at Minny earlier this year

Maybe, but I don’t think we want to run with Iowa
Not run with them necessarily just get those two some easy buckets for their confidence - I still believe we need one or both to get on track for us to have a deep run. Harris has alleviated that some lately but if either can find their 3 point shot that will go a long way.

So a brief synopsis of the game boils down to: Purdue's Cox vs. Iowa's Dix. Whoever has the better D wins.
