....over our most hated rivals. Did the the Iowa HC and players shake hands with us after the game?

It was a good win, and a historic beat down of our MHR. However, let's not read too much into this win. Iowa was not ready for the game. They are young overall, and were in a hostile arena. We were also running on overdrive, and jumped on them out of the gate. They were down a dozen points before the tip off it seemed. There are always games like this, and we have been on both sides of these type of games.

The good news was that the Iowa press did more damage to Iowa than us. Unlike last year.

I particularly enjoyed watching the press breaking. They didn't seem too phased by it. The play were Carsen brought up the ball and hit Haas with a 3/4 court pass for the dunk was really fun. Maybe that secret scrimmage game against WV was a wake up call to the team.

Unfortunately, PJ still looked shakey a number of times against the press. He's just way too tentative and lets the defense dictate where he's going to go.

I agree with your assessment. PJ does not put any speed into his drive up the court, and allows the defense to set up. CE comes up court at a dead run. PJ walks it up. I in he needs to have a gear change.

Watched the game a second time last night. Still didn't see this. He's very deliberate against the press and isn't likely to make a team pay for pressing like Carsen can, but given his skill set, his primary responsibility is to get it across halfcourt without turning the ball over. He failed to do that once in a game where he played 32 minutes and Iowa pressed the entire game.

This was the first game for me where I noticed some "shaky" moments against pressure. Not nearly the disaster as against the Hawkeyes last year, but a couple of indecisive moments/poor decisions. Even with those (and a plea not to resort to 2015/2016), this year's team looks miles better against the pressure so far. Plenty of games left to get a more accurate read. Also, despite a couple of lapses, it was good to see several times where the Boilers were assertive and made Iowa pay for the pressure with either a lay-up, slam, or uncontested three.

That's not even factoring in the presence of CE, who obviously wasn't available last year. It's still a concern, or at least a perceived weakness that I expect teams will try to exploit......but it looks like Purdue is in a much better position (on a number of fronts) to deal with it.

The Gophers of Minnesota should be another good test on that subject.

Yeah it really shows in his 39 assists to 3 TOs in the last 7 games (he was 6-1 in that game).
I do think Bonefish has a point. When the tall athletic types press him he still struggles relative to Carsen who just has fantastic tools to work with against a press. He is better than last year though and his half court game has been terrific. The solution is easy. Get Carsen in with PJ when the press is on.

More viable solution during crunch time is having a healthy Spike in game with Carsen helping with press. Spike is money at free throw line which could be a huge plus for us. Of course if Spike is healthy, we will see.
