Yeah how in the hell was this kid ranked like 350? This is no fluke I'm watching we've stolen one. Athletic, long, shot blocker and skilled offensively. I'm in shock and 7'3" yes 7'3"
I was surprised he could drive to the basket so easily. Seemed like nobody wanted to put themselves in Haarms way.

it was his call to Haarms. How long have you been waiting to spring that one.
I wasn't aware we were getting Rik Smits other son.
Phoned it in? What a ridiculous thing to say.haarms and eastern looked good. most of the seniors phoned it in
Let's not start anointing Haarms as the next (insert super tall European NBA player here). We've seen him play against 2 schools with no Big10 level recruits. Not saying he won't be an impact player but you have to consider the circumstances.

Reflecting on this some more....I've gone from wondering if he would be able to fill in for Haas capably if JT can't make it back to wondering if he might not be the best of the bunch right now. Certainly, his mobility and athleticism compared to Haas helps on the defensive end. Not quite ready to say he is the equal to Haas with his post up game but he demonstrated some competence with that last night along with the ability to put the ball on the floor.
The other thing I think this does is open the possibility of sliding Vince to the 3 and going with a big lineup if we want to.....particularly if JT comes back. I don't anticipate that happening often because Vince plays so well at the 4 but I think having 3 competent big men would allow us to do so if we ever thought it to be beneficial.
I've been an advocate for Haarms at the 4 for awhile. The only issue is we have a lot of talent at the guard/wing position so minutes are tight. I wouldn't be surprised to see Haarms around 20 mpg though.
How bout the Big Boiler Ball line-up?
Nojel Eastern
Dakota Mathias
Vincent Edwards
Matt Haarms
Isaac Haas/Jacquil Taylor
One thing is that Coach Painter is developing much more flexibility with his line-ups...hopefully Purdue will be in more of a position to force/dictate mismatches than having to deal with them from the other way around....going to be a little different, but the possibilities are intriguing. So far, Matt Haarms is a nice surprise. Obviously, it's early....great to have the season about to start.....been a looooong wait since the Kansas game.
We may only have him 2-3 yrs.if he keeping improving.
Phoned it in? What a ridiculous thing to say.
Vince had 20
Haas had 14
Dakota had an off night but was still trying
PJ had 2 steals and no TO's and rant he offense wonderfully
Saying a senior 'phone it in' is just ridiculous to say the least. We had very balanced scoring in a game where newcomers played quite a few minutes. Did you even watch the game or let alone listen to it?
Don't forget about playing in Europe, also he is almost 21yrs.old.
Fair enough, then it was my misinterpretation.I didn't take it as him dogging them...I just found the game boring and we all know what the seniors can do.
Yeah, we should put both seven footers in the game together - THE TWIN TOWERS!Reflecting on this some more....I've gone from wondering if he would be able to fill in for Haas capably if JT can't make it back to wondering if he might not be the best of the bunch right now. I don’t think that it was ever a very realistic option with Hammons and Haas, but Haarms is a very different kind of player and I think it’s possible that he might spend some time playing the four. Right now, backing up Haas is simply a greater need than playing him at the four, but the return of Jaquil could change that.Yeah, we should put both seven footers in the game together - THE TWIN TOWERS!
Why don’t we ever do that!!!??? I am going to call Painters radio show and ask him!!!
If you are going to go with big players first....you have to put Cline in there. He is 2 inches taller than Mathias at 6'6 I believe. How bout the Big Boiler Ball line-up?
