He changed water into wine. So Woody could definitely use him for his wine and cigar parties he has with the coaches after blowout losses.Did He change their spots?
Ask Lenny. So how is the "new school" approach at IU compare with the "old school" approach at Purdue? Which approach gets the most "value" from their team?
The difference is less the approach than the quality of the coach. I don't see Woodson having much of a plan. You can make either "school" work if you have a good enough plan and coaching to make it work.Ask Lenny.

IU doesn't have either.
I don't know of anyone who has said Painter didn't have a plan.Exactly.
Some 'experts' have told us for years that Purdue doesn't have either. After last year, they appear to have backed off on declaring the quality of the coach is mediocre, but they continue to claim that the approach is wrong.
Yes, you have read here where people said that he doesn't have "a good enough plan."I don't know of anyone who has said Painter didn't have a plan.
Two different thingsYes, you have read here where people said that he doesn't have "a good enough plan."
Did they look strong or is Indinia just that bad? Time will tell. The team they are playing against.....not so much.
This is where I believe a different coach might make a difference. Woodson also has people on is bench and have a hard time believing all share in Woodson's IU team play, but I don't think it is totally on Woodson either. Without adding on to the blame of Woodson, had Matt had these players I suspect things might be different. If true, that would also suggest that when we try to compare stats on a player that might be in the portal it may or may not hold true for Purdue in that Purdue expects a cerebral player within the team. The fans like to blame Woodson and I suppose the buck stops with him but the players just aren’t nearly as good as their hype.
They have a lot of off-season championship trophies, but is "the movement" trophy their most impressive one? It's a good thing they had their Off-Season National Championship. Otherwise, this season would be unbearable.
He is still alive?
Crean blew him off once, too. Don must be a real jerk.
I've been thinking some on this. If you get a player who was regarded as good out of HS from a "bad" school out of the portal, is the issue the player has to "re-learn" how to play and "un-learn" bad coaching/habits? Can they? If they've been there for a few years do they now depend too much on their own skill set because they didn't get anything out of their first few years via coaching, and now you can't teach the "old" dog new tricks? I can see a player developing an attitude of "these coaches aren't/can't teach me anything, so I just need to develop myself". I remember a great line from "Hoop Dreams" where Curtis's mother notes he thought he knew more than his coaches did and was going to play HIS way (which didn't work out). Kid may or may not have that attitude going into college, but he could certainly develop it under the wrong coach. This is where I believe a different coach might make a difference. Now, I'm not suggesting that Leal is a great player, but have no doubt he would have seen more minutes at Purdue than he has at IU. The few times I caught IU over his years, he seems to be perhaps their most cerebral player in that he generally plays inside a team approach and makes good decisions. This IU team has individual talent and that talent has individual stats that look good on paper...and passes the eye test as individuals. However, the few times I see them, it many times is individual play taking place.
I understood this early and thought (and it may still happen?) that as the season went on that talent would become a team. They have enough individual talent that if things change they can get a lot better. They have a rotten culture there as they seem to overlook culture, cerebral play and team unified goals. Perhaps Woodson's success whatever level it was in the NBA was due to the individual talent like IU , but honed by their coaches in college in things outside their individual stats that carried over to the NBA a bit for Woodson? All I know is last night had too much talent for IU to have the results they had. Illinois can also get to individual play at times, but have some shooters and do seem to have some action away from the ball. Can you imagine if Knight had his IU team played like last night?
Hard to say? We just know that cerebral players do well at Purdue where they may be lacking in athleticism and not have a chance at another school. Matt likes players out of Carmel assuming they meet other criteria due to what he sees as "structured" team play. Certainly it is easier if players were properly instructed before college so they don't have other issues show up later "IF" a coach has somewhat of a structured team. FWIW, Matt even shared as much when he said that Zach not only being humble and a hard worker, but since he was so new to the game he didn't have all those bad habits to eliminate. Lets take Bryson and Brenton Scott. Bryson had all the attributes necessary to pass the eye test, but his offensive skill set was hindered since his high school pressed all the time and he was used to gambling on D and shooting layups due to his speed. His brother Brenton perhaps less athletic did shoot in high school on the perimeter some and that carried over to college. IMO had Bryson had a more structured game in high school that would have prepared him for Purdue better. Not all are going to be that way or suggest that players that press a LOT are going to have issues at a school like Purdue, but IMO they are more likely to not be as prepared as they may believe on that first practice.I've been thinking some on this. 2nd in a row after they got blasted in Iowa City.Is this the 2nd blow-out Big Ten loss for the red and white team from down south?
I've mentioned this before, but my son called after his first D1 practice and said the slowest guy on his team was quicker than anyone he'd played against. Is this the depth of Colvin's struggle?Hard to say? We just know that cerebral players do well at Purdue where they may be lacking in athleticism and not have a chance at another school. Your son ran track in college too?????I've mentioned this before, but my son called after his first D1 practice and said the slowest guy on his team was quicker than anyone he'd played against. Is this the depth of Colvin's struggle?
Most IU fans I know would give their left n*^ to have CMP as their coach.Exactly.
Some 'experts' have told us for years that Purdue doesn't have either. After last year, they appear to have backed off on declaring the quality of the coach is mediocre, but they continue to claim that the approach is wrong.
Why does the left n*^ always seem to get all the love? Most IU fans I know would give their left n*^ to have CMP as their coach.
Very true, Illinois replaced their whole roster except for DGL I think. That's nuts. Right and left.Woodson says that it’s hard to jell a team with so many new players. True, but this way beyond jelling, it’s falling apart. He need only look on the floor at the opponent last night to see a team that has jelled with mostly new players up 30 points on his squad.
I view more the other way. That they love their right one and are willing to let the left one go 😂Why does the left n*^ always seem to get all the love?
Oh no they tell us he would have been gone loooong before he achieved any successMost IU fans I know would give their left n*^ to have CMP as their coach.
very easily could be. He definitely is playing faster than in high schoolI've mentioned this before, but my son called after his first D1 practice and said the slowest guy on his team was quicker than anyone he'd played against. Is this the depth of Colvin's struggle?
Do Dah Day needs to answer this, but I wonder if you are confused with Wole who mentioned more than once that his son ran track. If that is what you are remembering, then confusing Wole with Do Dah Day might not be the look Do Dah Day appreciates since he has tried to provide some distance between he and Wole before.Your son ran track in college too?????
I think you missed my joke. Or maybe I'm missing your comeback joke.Do Dah Day needs to answer this, but I wonder if you are confused with Wole who mentioned more than once that his son ran track. I did, but not now!I think you missed my joke. Or maybe I'm missing your comeback joke.
That's easy. Unless things have changed, it seems that 3D is missing a tooth and don't recall that being reported by Wole.Do Dah Day needs to answer this, but I wonder if you are confused with Wole who mentioned more than once that his son ran track. Maybe, but I don't think he continued as a college coach.Your son ran track in college too?????
