I'll take 17-4

Wait till we see how Purdue plays the last 10 games prior to the ncaa tourney. Most teams that do well in the tournament come together on those last 10 games. I for one would love a 3rd. Shot at Iowa in the big ten tourney. Playing on the road in the big ten very rough. Iowa beat MSU twice. Us twice. They must be pretty good. I think we are still coming together and these final games will tell the story.

But I'll take 17-4. I predict 23 wins. Then the tourney.

23 wins means we go 6-4 in the last 10 games..... that's not "coming together"

Why on earth would you take 17-4? Can't you see that those losses preclude us from having a good season? I mean, we should be 21-0! Only then would the season be a success. Right now, we might as well be 0-21. Season's over. It was over when we lost to Butler. Taking anything less than perfection proves we have a loser fanbase. Look at the couple other schools that have losses - they've packed up and gone home. We should do the same.

Keady wouldn't have taken this crap. He'd have thrown his jacket on the ground and demanded to get those 4 losses back. You know, he never lost a lead after halftime. In fact, nobody except Painter does. It's almost as if opposing teams don't get his memo that the second half should just be for fun. He should definitely be fired.

I think people are more frustrated with the way Purdue has lost its 4 games.

1) Another loss in the Crossroads Classic to Butler
2) Up 17 at half to Iowa (at Mackey), blew it
3) Loss to a sh*tty Illinois team
4) Another loss to Iowa (not a bad loss at all, but now will be very tough to win the conference)

Purdue's weaknesses have been getting exposed, and they haven't found a solution to fix those weaknesses against GOOD teams.

Teams take away our big men (or limit their impact) by doubling or helping in the post, and force Purdue's guards to beat them, and the guards aren't getting it done. Against Iowa, Painter, for much of the game, kept in the slow lineup that was getting blitzed on D; against Iowa the first time, he didn't adjust to a full court press that terrorized Purdue for an entire half.

Lot of season left for them to figure it out; I guess we'll see.

A level headed discussion on the weaknesses of our team is more than welcome. You proved it can be done. But I have no tolerance for most of these posters coming out of the woodwork and issuing over-the-top statements that lack any type of reason.

The first Iowa loss sucked. I was there. But there's no need for implosion over how we've performed thus far. The season can still be a very special one.

I think the problem Painter is having is having 2 NBA players in the front court, solid bigs, and another potential NBA player in Haas on the bench. He figures there's too much talent in the front court to NOT have them play. But when we face teams who can brings our bigs out to the 3 point line, spread them out, and take advantage of their weakness, he doesn't know how to counter.

Does he put Swanigan on the bench because he keeps getting burned by anyone on the perimeter, giving the impression that Painter can't utilize 5* star like other coaches? Or does he keep them in there, knowing they're going to be exposed and likely costing the team a win? It's a situation that can hurt him in the long run, and may not even be enough to sway the team to a win in THAT CURRENT game. I think our best lineup is when VE is a 4 when we play teams with a stretch 4, but again, that leaves either Hammons, our backbone and most productive player on the bench, or Swanigan, his lone 5* recruit, giving the impression that he can't utilize him. I know a large reason Swanigan came to Purdue was to play the 4, but he is a huge liability defensively against what's now becoming the norm which is a stretch 4.

Now that the rambling is done, I'm too happy with a 17-4 record. Honestly, we should be ranked in the teens, seeing how we have a better or just as good a record as many of the teams in the 11-20 range, but I'm okay with being under the radar. There's so much parity in the league this year, that I could see a couple of 10 seeds making a final four push, and we have the build to do just that.

We should be 19-2. Should have split with Iowa and not lost to Illinois. Butler beat us and we played poorly as well that game. Have a feeling Butler was pretty inspired with Andrew Smith at the game, knowing he was critically ill.
