I WAS WRONG

Schools in the Big 12 have started throwing BIG money at women's players. up to 900k per player. Might as well keep Gearlds, we cannot compete with that level of NIL and commercialism. Women's basketball is dead and just doesn't know it yet.
Bite your tongue! I bet we could get better for less. :)

Women’s basketball pretty much is the same few teams winning it every year, for me its been a big bore, Clark brought back some excitement, now let’s get ready to watch UCONN and SC in the final 4 again, I find it boring.

One of the ND players in the portal is seeking a Million. You have HS players demanding mid 6 figures and beyond, who’ve never even played a single minute in a college game. And you have kids who took themselves out of playing this year (claimed mental health because remember, coaches cannot touch a mental health claim) , to be able to “save the year” and then conveniently return next season (or transfer out with the year in their pocket) and capitalize on the revenue sharing that will begin next season. It’s easy to say “I miss basketball” or “I love my school” when you sidelined yourself a season, to ensure you could return and get paid! Purdue won’t see much of the $20 million as football, men’s basketball and volleyball are all way more successful. (Obviously FB has not been in recent years but they always bring in the most revenue so they will retain a majority of the rev sharing)Not sure how CKG determines who gets paid what, but the days of watching players play because they love the game, are sadly over.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the WBB still bring in more money than volleyball? I see a seating capacity of only 2,288, I know they sometimes play at Mackey but the Basketball team averaged 5,273 fans a game this season. For how bad the team was, the sport still seems to generate more money than Volleyball.

I'd have to believe WBB would still get the 3rd biggest slice of that revenue sharing pie(albeit still relatively small compared to Football and MBB).

I would be surprised if WBB gets more of the cut than VB. Could be wrong however. Not sure what formula is used. One thing to understand though, is there is some manipulation with WBB ticket sales. Last year for example, they claimed to have games “sold out” when in fact they gave tickets away to students to fill the stands. These weren’t fans who paid for tickets, but handed to students to generate interest. So, the illusion is they are bringing in huge crowds. Reality is that more people came to see their opponents (IU, UCLA, USC, Iowa, etc.,) than to watch Purdue WBB. I think the VB games being played in Mackey this past fall revealed just how much support the women’s VB team has, as it was sold out for those games.
