Williams on Hazell: "Getting to know him, the first year, he was intimidating. Now that I've got to know him, I love him. Literally, he could tell me to jump off the Skyway Bridge down in Florida, I'm jumping off it. He could tell me to run into that wall, and I'm running through it. Literally. He's genuine. Just going through all the lumps and losses we have, you can't pretend to be genuine. Players see straight through it. We know he cares. He's a man of his words. He asks us for stuff to get the program better, and he gets that stuff for us. I remember one time after a game, I saw his son (Kyle) crying, and it felt like that was my little brother crying. That stuff hurt. Just to know he cares, you really want to do everything you can to see everybody happy."
Kugs also had high praise for the staff. Some could reasonably dismiss this as rah rah talk or point out that every team has guys that are dialed in and guys that arent. I think this sort of attitude has been sorely missing from Purdue the last two years.
