I know Purdue

I think Fleck is more than just hype, but losing to a Maryland team that seems to be playing better on the road this year takes a little bit of the luster off their 3-0 start.

Should be a good game. I'm interested in seeing how Purdue responds to the first real adversity of the season after getting handled by Michigan in the second half.

Minnesota's non-conference schedule did that for me:

Buffalo, @ Oregon State, and MTSU are a combined 6-9 with Buffalo having 3 of those wins against Colgate, FAU, and Kent State. Not exactly a strong non-conference schedule. I am guessing if Minny had Purdue's non-conference they could very well have been 1-2.

Typical Minnesota non-conference schedule. They're notorious for historically scheduling very soft in the early season.

I think that started under Glen Mason in his effort to turn the program around. His thought was get 4 (at the time only 8 conference games) wins and then get two in conference play...anything above that was gravy. As the bowl games racked up so would the program. I think a few years ago Minny schedule USC and TCU in the non-conference but I think those have been the only non-conference games with a pulse.

USC: 2010 & 2011
TCU: 2014 & 2015
CSU: 2015 & 2017
Ohio: 2015

Their non-conference for 2018:
New Mexico State
Fresno State
Miami (OH)

2019:
South Dakota State (FCS)
Georgia Southern
Fresno State

2020:
New Mexico State
Miami (OH)
BYU

2021:
@ Colorado
TBA
TBA

As a comparison, Purdue's following non-conference:
2018:
EMU
Missouri
Boston College

2019:
Nevada
Vandy
TCU

2020:
Memphis
Boston College
TBA

2021:
Notre Dame

A lot depends on Blough's health! Sindelar may have the better arm, but our offense actually gets in gear with Blough running it!

In Minnesota's defense, they did a home-and-home with Oregon State.

I have no idea when that series was scheduled, but I'm sure it was before the bottom fell out at Oregon State.

2019 looks to be a little more competitive than others, not to worry, it will be CJBrohm’s 3rd season at PU. His Offensive system will be like a well oiled machine, putting up Big Numbers!! On a side note, it will be interesting watching QB’s Sipe and Plummer and their development under the Brohm Brothers.

I have a feeling that Sipe will be the future.
