I know I'm wrong to think this but . . . .

I really hope one of the Boilers goes headhunting and knocks the ever loving crap out of the Illinois "player" that clearly targeted Blough. That guy needs to have his head ripped off of his body. No excuse for that. And if I'm Jeff Brohm, I headed straight to the replay booth after the game to do the same to the replay official. This is complete bull.

I'm not so quick to attribute bad intentions. When you're out there playing 100 mph it's not always easy to let up at the last minute or adjust to a player that could either be jumping or falling to the ground as you're approaching to hit him.

Having played defense myself, you are right. I don't think it was malicious but was certainly a targeting hit.

Agree. I don't like the targeting rule but understand that in today's environment they're going to err on the side of protecting the player every time.

Unless that player is from Purdue apparently. That hit (and Michigan's on Anthrop) was way worse than what we have seen our guys tossed for...

Even worse is that they overturned the call made on the field. I'd have been upset if they failed to call it and missed it on replay, but to seemingly find enough to clearly overturn the call is bewildering to say the least.

"I just can't........figure it out."

That was definitely the worst no-call I have seen. With some of the piss poor targeting calls we've had against us this season, that seemed like a no brainer. The worst thing about it was that the rules expert and the commentators were just floored about the reversal.

I'm glad we won but that call and that horse collar call a little later were just extremely poor calls. It is inexcusable that they were able to review the targeting and couldn't uphold it. If that isn't targeting, then it doesn't exist.

Man, that was targeting clear and simple and probably a late hit on top of it. And the dude had been called for a targeting call early this season already if I heard the announcers correctly so he has a reputation on top of it. I have no idea how they overturn such a call. He led with his helmet. I thought Blough was starting to play more consistent too; its a shame. I hope he has a full recovery.

And when they were showing shots of him afterward he always had a shit eating grin on his face. Clearly he had no concern for what happened to Bough.

I think we are now seeing push back from the officials. Earlier in the season there were too many targeting calls that were not justified and this was widely criticized to include this forum. Now the refs are probably a bit too lax in calling targeting.

Watch the slow motion replay and it is completely clear that this was targeting. The worst part is watching this frame by frame it is clear to me that Blough's injury likely would not have happened if not for the malicious hit by Green. At first I didn't think the injury was caused by the targeting hit, but after studying the film I truly believe that it was. Perhaps Blough would have still hurt his ankle on the play if not for the Green hit - not sure - but the hit by Green made it certain that he did and also made it severe. I wish there was some way to over rule the dumbass officials and suspend this dude.
