Man right now I am so disappointed and have such a despicable feeling in my stomach I am literally speechless. This game came straight down to QB performance. We don't need a full overview. The first play of the game, talk about someone setting the sailboat sails on fire. Right out of the gates it was a pick 6 on one really bad read. Who starts out throwing the ball on the 1st play of the game deep in your own territory anyways? Does this offensive coordinator just run these plays like a DJ at the club letting his apple computer pop up random songs? Is that how these plays are called? I am not asking for the top QB recruit in the nation either. All I ask for is for one as good as any other big ten team has at this point. I'll take Marshal's QB. I'll take Ball State's QB. That tight end overthrow was just a really poorly thrown ball. Because when you get right down to it 70% of Purdue's losses can be summarized at the QB position, missed field goals that have plagued this team for decades, and really bad DB coverage. The DB's today I thought played much better until late in the game when they were tired. Not throwing horrible passes and INTs today wins this game.
Had to get that out of my system. I played QB and I can tell you right now if I threw a game like that there is no way I would have started for my school in high school. There is no way I'd even had been backup. Isn't Appleby a junior? We have two really good younger QBs. So far we had the back half of last season blown almost entirely on bad QB performance along with a very winnable game today lost because of it as well. It is clear that Appleby is making the kind of mistakes that a first game QB probably wouldn't. Is it worth going through this entire season developing him for a 1 year return at best next year? There is a lot of talent on this team. A lot of weapons. Why not take one of these younger QB's and put them out there now? At worst they'll probably not make nearly as bad throws as today. At best they might be a ringer, the kind we need and can age with the current crop of backs we have out there. This game to me does it. It's got to be someone else's chance now. If Purdue wins 4 games and we ride out Appleby this year and have to see this happen week after week it's going to get the coach possibly fired. If we see that same 4 games won and with an improving young QB in there, then possibly his job is saved and with Purdue on the upside for next year. Feelings are going to be hurt in football. But you can't have a team out there suffering on the performance of one position every year. You just can't.
