How many transfers to we need and how many will start?

I don’t think so. I know there is no scholarship limit but I would expect you would have about 85 legit players. We probably get a 15 person class with the flips and 25 or so true sophomores. I count about 25-30 returning upperclassmen so I would expect 15-20 transfers. I would be it the over under at 12 transfers starting, pretty much the entire OLine and 5 of the front 7 and a couple others.
25+ incoming is a fair guess but it wouldn’t surprise me if that number was well above that.
Minimum of 15 starters, would like to see more!
If you look at the roster and take the transfer portal guys out there are holes left and right at all positions. At this point I don’t see many main Purdue portal guys returning so this roster will be a total flip… I could be wrong but I don’t think money or Odom are keeping those guys here!

Maybe 1 or 2 return but I agree most if not all are gone. Karlaftis and Theineman would be nice to see return.
My guess on what we have left, this is assuming some named below come back
Offense
Qb - 4 (Bennett, two freshmen, I am going to bet Browne or Davila comes back)
RB - 4 Mockobee, meriweather, 2 freshmen
Wr - 9 addressed in another thread
Te - 2 burnehm and freshman
OL - 10 - gorin, 6from 2024, Liston, tanona, sales,
That’s 30 but only 6 freshmen. I bet we pick up a few more freshmen from flips especially after we make our OC and maybe pick up a guy or two returning. And then I would guess we add 9 or so more from transfer portal. Maybe a QB, RB, a couple WR, TE, and 5 OL. We might get 6-7 starters here, maybe even the entire OL.

Now let’s look at defense
DL - 11, 2 Fr, 3 -2024, Carlson, Strickland, Kennedy, Lewis, Omonode, Harkless,
LB - 6, 2 Fr, Smith, Madden. Davis, Miller
DB - 11. 3 Fr, 6 - 2024, green, brown
That’s 28 and 7 are freshmen. Again i hope we can pick up a few more freshmen and flip 1-2 back. Rule of thumb you want 3 experienced players at each group position assuming all freshmen RS, so 33 and we have 22. I expect we will have about 10 or so transfers. Just a guess but 3 DL, 4 LB, 4 DBs. For starters I would assume green, Brown, omonode start so we need 8 more. Some may be RS Fr. Or someone like Miller steps up. Not all transfers but let’s just set o/u at 6.
So to summarize I think we get 20+/- transfers and 12-13 are starters. At the presser Odom made it a point to say he wants to keep the team together and use as foundation. A week ago I may have Ben with you guys and said 25+.

I think we will see a significant amount return once we have coaches identified. I expect Sherer will hit ground running on Thursday so end of next week and into following we could see some traction. I initially thought Thieneman would come back but with him taking visits, that’s not good. He may be just trying to establish a value. If we have $13m-$15m to spend i might even say $1m should go to him.
Yanni might get the team minimum which I’m going to guess is around $100k.
Fair point. Odom did a solid job in the press conferences and only so many know what he really said in the locker room with the team but it’s going to take a whole lot of convincing to get these guys back at Purdue! I sure hope they come back but it’ll be a tough decision for most. You have to remember a lot of these guys have been though 2 coaching changes now so are they really going to take another chance and stick around with Odom 🤷🏼♂️ some of these guys have a pretty solid offer list and NIL money coming their way if they were to leave. The ones that return will be guys that absolutely love Purdue for Purdue or their offer list wasn’t there so they return.
Its safe to say this off season could be a bigger change over with the transfer portal than what Walters ever dealt with….Odom has work to do and the next few months will be an interesting ride!

It will be interesting to see how many UNLV players transfer after their bowl game.
Time will only tell!
Their depth chart is loaded with seniors so it’ll be interesting how that plays out.
Yanni needs to move down to the MAC. He's not a B10 LB.
We should know in about a week.

It's not the quantity, it's the quality. I hope we pay Top Dollar for about 5 OL and 5 DL, even more than the Ohio States and Texases and the Notre Dames. If we do that, a bunch of average QBs and recievers and RBs and DBs will get a lot better.
