IU, Ohio St., Penn St, Minnesota, Iowa and maybe even Michigan St. could all have someone new on the sidelines. The first five because they are bottom feeders, but Izzo could bolt if MS gets far enough in the NCAA T. He's 70 and he would be leaving the next guy a good roster. The other five rosters are going to be less attractive!

It would be very surprising to me if CTI hangs them up after this season. His replacement choice would be interesting. As you listed, I expect Penn St and Iowa, and IU of course. Maybe Oregon? I doubt Minnesota makes a change, but I can see him choosing to leave for another job. Maybe OSU wants to go with a bigger name?

MSU loses Akins, fiddler and zapala due to graduation. Richardson will leave for the NBA.

I’d imagine if Izzo retired, there’d be a max exodus of his team to the portal.

Why do you think Oregon?

Ohio state probably gives Diebler another year, but if not…Thornton should transfer here 😏

For the past several years I assumed Izzo was just holding on long enough to pass Knight, especially as MSU slid back into the middle of the B1G.

He's now caught or surpassed Knight in just about every major category, with the obvious exception of national titles--though Izzo does have more overall tournament wins and Final Fours.

It'll be interesting to see what Izzo does now. A 9th (friggin' 9th!!!) Final Four would be a fitting capstone to his career.
Or, this year's MSU resurgence could inspire him to keep going in the hope that he can establish himself definitively as the league's greatest coach. I will say this: I don't see Izzo winning two more natties.

I think you’re looking at two likely departures and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a third, but I don’t know who that will be.

IU - gone
OSU - first full year, likely to be back
PSU - likely gets another year
Minny - likely gets another year as an alum
Iowa - sounds like he’s done
Oregon - back unless he’s just had enough with the travel
MSU - I think he keeps coaching until he can’t but I could be wrong

If Izzo retired, would he seek a new coaching job? Or a job to replace Dicky V as an announcer? Or become part of the ncaa administration ?

Or would he just get on his horse and ride into the background like in blazing saddles?

I was just thinking Dickie V might retire after this season. Izzo is a natural actor and can make audiences get emotional and cry. He’d be a natural in the broadcasting booth!

As for working for the NCAA, Izzo is probably already a member of the ncaa rules committees. I’ve seen some other pro athletes get jobs working in the commissioner’s office. It would be a great idea for the ncaa to add somebody who actually knows something to their staff.

Or maybe Izzo would follow hershall walker, or Tommy tubberville or Jim Tressel’s lead and become Republican Senator or lt Governor in Michigan. People would vote for him. People have approached Saban . It could happen.

Look at Keady. He retired and then had two more jobs after retirement

Not sure he’d be a natural. It takes a few years to get to be close to being good.

Ok

Ok weird flex, but alright.

Ok

Pretty sure we recruited him too…not sure why he continues to stay at OSU…

Purdue was among his 18 or so offers and about a week prior to Ohio State offering.....he took a few unofficial visits to SEC schools and committed to Ohio State during early period his JR year in high school. A LOT of schools were interested (including other conference schools - Indiana and Maryland).

I could just see Izzo looking into the camera and telling some sob story and drawing a tear and the fans watching it on tv and eating it all up. He could easily be the Kurt Herbstriet of college basketball . Unlike Keady and Painter, he’s got that emotional appeal. That viewers love. Jim boehiem always came across as an elite woke whiner and complainer! Calipari is a snake oil salesman . Pitino is too mafia oriented. Izzo is that blue collar type guy. He’s a Rick Vaughn closer type of guy! A wild thing! He’s a Rudy! He is always animated. If he weren’t the msu coach, you’d love watching this guy!

Painter may be an awesome coach, but he comes across as a stiff. He would always be the straight man.

Izzo isn’t going anywhere. Watched an interview on the b1g network about his conference championship. They mentioned nil and how it’s impacted some coaches and he said he’s too stubborn to quit. Braden was on there too.
