Robinson, Bentley, Hunte? Bentley was in the Senior Bowl, but not invited to the combine. Seems like Wilson would be the last out of the 4 to get an invite to the combine. I guess I'm just baffled how Wilson got an combine invite, but not at least Bentley. Anyone out there shed a little light on the process of getting a combine invite?

Teams put in request for what players they want to see and if a certain number of teams (might be 12) request a player he gets an invite.

I'm surprised about Robinson, but from what I've heard he's down in Florida and working his arse off

Im not surprised on Bentley. Quiet Senior Bowl practices arent a good thing.

maybe be like Corey Clement, fly under the radar and will wind up on a good team.
I think with the advent of video technology and the fact that there are plenty of school combines available for every team to get to, the combine has lost a bit of its' luster...but the NFL Network does a good job of bolstering it for ratings purposes. These guys aren't going head to head at the combine (much like you see at the NBA combine which is a great gauge for teams) so getting numbers at the combine and getting numbers at a school one means very little outside of the electronically timed 40 yard dash.

At Purdue, there are usually many scouts and team reps there to get numbers on kids or to follow up on guys who weren't able to participate at the combine. Ray Williams was one player who garnered a lot of attention because of his late season switch to CB his senior year. He didn't get a combine invite BUT he had lots of attention at the Purdue combine bc of that switch. I am guessing Bentley and Robinson will garner lots of attention...especially Bentley who has film of him being very athletic and showing very good speed to go along with ideal MLB size at the NFL level. That type of ability will get long looks by the NFL given how much the spread has evolved at the NFL level. Getting a young MLB who can hold up one on one in the middle on the run BUT can get side to side and drop in to coverage would be a huge plus. The Minnesota game showed a lot of positives for Bentley...just need to shore up the concerns about injury frequency.

I'm still shocked Wilson received an invite. he's had several red flags. and 12+ teams were still interested in him?

It's hard to believe less than 12 teams were interested in Robinson and Bentley. They will provide some team an undervalued player.

Gotta wonder if Bentley is coming to the NFL five years too late...Middle linebackers seem to be more built like strong safeties any more.

You think he would be at least a good two down player for a 3-4 team.

He'll be signed as a rookie free agent by the Pats and shine knowing my luck

I think Gelen could make a good rotation three technique for a team like the Cowboys or the Colts.

How are players selected for the NFL Combine?

All
32 NFL teams are invited to provide input on draft-eligible players which is used by the Player Selection Committee to select each year’s participants. The Directors of both National and BLESTO scouting services, which combined represent 28 NFL teams, are joined by members of various NFL player personnel departments to form the committee. The participating NFL executives can rotate on a yearly basis, and remain anonymous. ALL eligible players are reviewed and voted on by the committee members. Each athlete receiving the necessary number of votes, by position, is then extended an invitation. While it is not a perfect science, the goal of the committee is to invite every player that will be drafted in the ensuing NFL Draft.
