How does the least respected coach in the B1G, keep getting highly ranked recruits? Hate to bring up anything IU on our season opener but I can't figure out how the clown does it.

I've actually grown to appreciate when he lands a rated recruit. Anything to keep him employed in Bloomington.
Crean is a salesman. He turns a lot of people off, but that doesn't really matter because he casts a wide net. We laugh at the way he hypes up IU, but it works for him.
The man can recruit. I'll take Painter as coach any day, but wish we would recruit at the level that IU has since Crean arrived in Bloomington. I realize Purdue has gotten it's fair share of top recruits, but hopefully a successfully season will enable Painter to land one or two from the loaded 2017 class in Indiana.
In fairness to Painter, I think that it is easier to recruit to IU than to Purdue. The IU basketball brand is still stronger.
Crean doesn't recruit that well. The Indiana brand recruits well. If Painter and Crean switched jobs (I just shuttered in disgust) nobody would be talking about how good of a recruiter Crean is, and Painter would land many 5 stars.
Good point; I hate that the IU "brand" is easier to sell than Purdue's.
It always helps to have the state's name in your university's name, history & location doesn't hurt either. I'm just glad they still have "No Defense Crean". I'll take Coach Painter any day of the week. Purdue still holds the advantage in overall head to head matchups, & probably always will-SCOREBOARD!!! We swept them last season-SCOREBOARD!!! They still have Crean-SCOREBOARD!!!
It also helps if you have a real football team/coach. That too will change, but not soon enough, unfortunately. Our women's basketball team usually helps in the men's sports recruiting as well. Our women's basketbal team will be just fine, & soon start helping the other Purdue sports teams recruit as well.
