How close Purdue has come to achieving the dishonor of losing twice to a #16 seed….

Some may be too young to remember or do not recall ( I do and was watching in horror) as Western Carolina had two good shots including a very good look at a 3-pointer in the last 10 seconds to “upset” Purdue under the archaic Keady basketball style…but luckily Purdue held on to win 73-71.

Yep.

And do you remember who won the conference that year? I don’t, bc it’s meaningless. But some have that as their measure of success.

I remember very well. Took a Roy Hairston shot at the end to take the lead for good. Watched the game in my room in Wiley Hall. Then they lost to 8 or 9 seed (can’t remember which) Georgia (coached by Tubby Smith) in the round of 32.

My point is that Keady’s system does NOT work and Painter has tried to carry on the “legacy”…correct point in that success is measured in the NCAA tournament. I could not tell you which team won the Big Ten Conference in 1996…it is, as you stated meaningless.
