And hire someone just to put out this dumpster fire raging in Ross Ade. I had no idea this was going to be what DH2 meant when he christened it "The Furnace".

It seems like Les Miles is over he hill, on his way out, but he's got the experience to at least staunch the bleeding and right the ship. Purdue isn't going to be LSU, but at least it could be put back in a position to make a really, truly great hire in 3 years.

It doesn't have to be Miles, either. Just someone with the experience to set Purdue up for a great long term future, without having to be the one to resurrect the program from laughingstock to Big Ten champs. This way, Purdue can take its time finding the Right Guy (they only come once in a while at Purdue) while knowing the program is in good hands right now.

Besides, it would be easier to hire a great coach when you have the program and infrastructure to sell along with the Purdue Salary ( whatever that may be).

This is all fine and well, but the fans would be absolutely miserable during this Miles turn around job.

Expectations would be sky high (I mean, he did win a national championship right?) while his rebuild would be slow and the on the field results would likely not look that much different than now.

The only thing that happens is our talent base would get better. A better talent base would be nice to hand over to the next guy....but why not hire that next guy now instead of 3-4 years from now.

Got to find someone who can reconnect with IN high school football coaches and get some solid IN kids to come to Purdue. IU is now killing us in this area, and this should not be the case.

You folks have no idea what goes on in the SEC. Especially in Louisiana. Recruiting is different there. I think recruiting is easier down there. Just sayin.

You think? I know. There are about 147 different reasons why its easier to recruit there than here.

And Eddie O knows all 147 of them.

Love that guy. He recruited a friend of mine out of high school. Ended up playing for him at Ole Miss for 2 years. As a player....they have nothing bad to say about him....minus the whole winning thing as a HC. Perfect recruiting lead and DL coach though. He and Lane Kiffin are old buddies. If LSU hires Kiffin, he stays. We would be wise to hop on him as a DC candidate.

Les Miles looks much more attractive as HC if Ed O comes for a ride and Cam Cameron gets lost on his way to West Laffy.

IN doesn't have that much HS football talent. There's some, but it's not a talent rich state at all.
Basketball is another story and we can't recruit the state there either.

Perhaps you are right, but I just don't see how a superstar hotshot coach is going to want to take over Purdue right now. Maybe if the team ends up with 6 wins and a bowl, then yeah. However, the history of lack of support and commitment to the football program is a glaring weakness. A very glaring one.

If I were PJ Fleck, Brohm, Philip Montgomery, (insert coach here) I wouldn't take the Purdue job without proof, evidence, or history of commitment to football success. I guarantee they won't be interested in a "do more with less" job. They already have that now, with no pressure. I would go somewhere else, or stay where I'm at and continue to do well.

Would you take the Purdue job knowing what you have to fight against? Only to get fired in 3.5 years?

What do you have to fight against at this point? State of the art player center opening next year. Already have an indoor facility. Getting lights. Have an AD who seems committed to football only 2 months into the job. Cashing a $3million paycheck every year. Plan in place to renovate the stadium once results pick up.

What of this is negative? If that doesn't signal a change to you, I don't know what would. Rome wasn't built in a day and Purdue football won't be rebuilt in a day (or even a year).

All jobs that the hot commodities are offered will have similar challenges (hence why they are looking for coaches). I think we have a lot of positive going for us through the future. New AD, new approach to football.

Sorry, but the MB2 firing DH2 now is no different than MB1 Firing DH1 4 years ago. The program has been stagnant for 8 years. Just look at IU and compare their progress. It's night and day.

While recruiting to LSU is not exactly a struggle, he was known as a good recruiter at his previous jobs as well.

Not saying it's a guarantee, but he's certainly more proven than many others.

Yes IUS program is ahead of Purdue right now,but over the years 2008 until now,Purdue has 18 conference wins to the Hoosiers 12,and Hope coached Purdue to 13 league victories in 32 tries, while Kevin Wilson has claimed nine Big Ten wins in 43 games.IU is only better than Purdue now, because of Burke and Darrel. That nightmare has ended. With the right hire,Purdue can pass the Loosiers in two seasons.

Exactly. So, if you were a coach ready and available, would you pick IU and it's recent history of administrative support and commitment to football, or Purdue and it's "maybe we might think about finding some more money for some things you might need" mentality? Right now, it's a no brainer, pick a place like IU. In three years? I sure hope it's Purdue. We're only 2 months removed from Burke, nothing has really changed much.

Okay, but IU isnt looking for a coach.I get your point, and while the Hoosiers have three straight Bucket wins, theywont be better than Purdue much longer, providing Bobo gets the right man.Without DH to beat up on the last three seasons,Wilson might already have been canned. If the Hoosiers had not rallied to beat the Boilermakers in 2014,his league record would have been 4 and 28.Glass may have gotten rid of him then.

No, not IU exactly, just an example. If a school LIKE IU, as in similar to, is more attractive to a coach than Purdue right now, why would a hotshot coach come to Purdue if there are better options? So my OP stated, hire someone who has the experience to right the ship, give time for Bobinski to develop the football program and then go out and get the star coach in 3 years. Besides, well be paying hazel for 2 years moving forward any way because of that blasted contract. So after that, we can afford to throw money at someone and hire THE coach of the future.
