Absolutely.

There were enough of us doing this they’d just set up the 4 way screens in a large conference room and let you watch if you wanted. No point in resisting!

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, it's the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, a Midwest Region game from Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island between the #13-seed High Point Panthers (29-5) and the #4-seed Purdue Boilermakers (22-11). This is the first game of the Providence afternoon session with tip scheduled for approximately 12:40 pm (Eastern time) with television coverage on truTV. High Point won the Big South Tournament Championship and is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance. This will be Purdue's 36th tournament appearance and 10th straight under Matt Painter.

Projected Starting Line-ups:

High Point - Juslin Bodo Bodo, Kimani Hamilton, Kezza Giffa, D'Maurian Williams, and Chase Johnston

Purdue - Trey Kaufman-Renn, Caleb Furst, CJ Cox, Fletcher Loyer, and Braden Smith

______________________________________

High Point is among the top scoring teams in college basketball. The Panthers, who rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat Winthrop in the Big South Championship, average 82.2 points per game to rank 18th nationally. Led by guards Kezza Giffa and D'Maurion Williams, High Point enters the NCAA tournament — its first in program history — on a 14-game winning streak since a 82-80 loss at Longwood on Jan. 16. Kezza Giffa is scoring 14.9 points per game with 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Panthers. Kimani Hamilton is averaging 12.8 points over the last 10 games. 7’0” center Juslin Bodo Bodo, a sophomore from Cameroon, is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game to lead the team, and a key player off the bench is Bobby Pettiford, a 6'0" guard who averages 8.9 points per contest and leads the leam with 3.4 assists per game.

LAST 10 GAMES: High Point: 10-0, averaging 85.6 points, 33.9 rebounds, 12.9 assists, 6.8 steals and 2.4 blocks per game while shooting 50.7% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 71.2 points.

Purdue: 4-6, averaging 77.1 points, 29.2 rebounds, 14.3 assists, 5.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 47.8% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 77.1 points per game.

High Point is rated 84th overall in the KenPom ratings, 25th in offensive efficiency and 225th in defensive efficiency. The Panthers play at a below average pace, rated 222nd in adjusted tempo. Purdue is currently rated 19th overall, 7th offensively and 65th defensively. The Boilers pace is still among the lower quarter, rated 298th in adjusted tempo.

This could be higher scoring game than average, as this game will be one of two first-round contests that features two top-25 KenPom-rated offenses nationally. The other game is UConn (8) vs. Oklahoma (9) in a West Region game from Raleigh tomorrow. This game today also features the only matchup with both teams in the top 25 nationally in field goal percentage (High Point - 7th (.582); Purdue - 12th (.565)). Purdue does have a slight edge in 3pt FG % - (.385, 13th to .364, 62nd)

Purdue will really have to execute the game plan on both ends of the floor. This is a well-coached team, playing well, and one of its strengths is doing exactly what has caused Purdue some problems this year, especially down the stretch.....getting into the paint and causing problems from there. As Matt Painter illuminated - "Very good coach [Alan Huss].....one of my assistants was on staff with him at Creighton; he coached with Coach Lusk at Creighton under Greg McDermott. I've been in his practices when he was a prep school coach......coached Raphael Davis in prep school."

"They really work the ball downhill; they drive the basketball.....they live in the paint. They're very efficient, they're very analytically aligned - working inside out - getting layups, usually over help, so then if they miss, they're getting rebounds - best rebounding team in the Big South."

"We have to do a better job of keeping them out of the paint than what their opponents on film have.....that's what jumps out to me."

Purdue should be able to score IF they don't turn the basketball over, which has sometimes been an issue, but there have also been stretches where the Boilers have been very good about valuing possessions and also keeping control of the glass. High Point has been consistently good, although the depth of the competition hasn't been, not to the level of Purdue's this season. That's not any reason to underestimate your opponent, and the Purdue staff knows this and some of the players have learned it maybe the hard way. From Matt Painter - "Just having that respect of your opponent and understanding how good everybody is in this tournament. Any time you can dominate your league, win your conference tournament.....win 14 games in a row.....you've earned respect."

I think the team will be prepared and not overlook the Panthers....playing to their capabilities and handling the expectations. That's another matter and easier said then done. Matt Painter was asked about how some of the coaches may help in that area - "PJ and Sasha's voice is important - them being able to pass on their experiences good and bad resonates with them --muture for their age - how to approach things...how to handle things, especially how to handle adversity."

This is also a game where Purdue could really use key contributions from Boilers off the bench, but most importantly, play loose and with poise. As Matt Painter put it......"Be in the moment - it's what we've worked for since August....but also remember to have fun with it."

How do the Boilers handle situations today? Do they build some momentum and move on to a second round match-up, or does the season clome to a close this afternoon? The winner today will play Saturday against the winner of Clemson (5) v. McNeese (12). We shall see coming up with the start about 90 minutes or so away.

Boiler up, my friends.

When I was with the state years ago, I came up on a list that said I was on the internet all day long for two days. Luckily we had hooked it up to a TV and many "head people" were watching it there also. I was given a waiver for a group activity. Months later, we found out that the Governor also showed up on that list.

Who is this? Gem? ....you are on list!

Ha! My boss then, thought it was so funny that I was on that list. At the time, I didn't share his humor since the "criminal" list was sent to every state agency and it was public record. I was waiting for a watch group to file a complaint for inappropriate use of state tax dollars against me.
