the board versus a bit more 3 balls by Illinois. Course Curbello kept the Ill in it with the 2 pt fg and Eric getting the pass from TRevion for 2 pts was big. I'm guessing that Ill outscored Purdue by 7 or so behind the arc. HUGE game by Zach and not Trevion's best game played. This is a great win for reasons outside the obvious Big run, but for Eric to take another step. I suspect that Matt knows in the long run he needs Eric who has already played in big games down the road. Now Eric needs to take another step Thursday. What a game by Zach...he really has some good footwork. Isaiah got good looks today, but still went 1 /3 or 1/4???? Brandon came in and overall played well enough to get minutes down the road. REally solid effort by all, but some bad decisions as the clock was winding down in all periods.

This battle also allowed Purdue to play in a high stakes game against a really solid team in a hostile environment. Cheerleaders and fans jumping on the court in the Hall of Calls won't be quite as bothersome...

Illinois (12-33 from 3pt)/32-77 overall for +6
Purdue (8-18 from 3pt)/31-68

Big difference at the FT line Boilers +14 (26/32 vs 12/15 (Illinois started 12/12)).

Purdue won the glass 46 (10 offense)-39 (8 offense)....much better block-outs from what I saw.

The little things almost cost them, but CMP has to be happy with the effort and poise in the second overtime period. The 17-0 run late in the first half probably won them the game in hindsight. Zach Edey really frustrated Kofi Cockburn, which I wasn't sure could happen.

Hopefully, the Boilers build on this. TH will be a hornet's nest, and they will have to play with the same kind of grit and determination.

Also.....don't forget about red sweater guy in the corner.

Someone needs to screen the red sweater guy.

Ha Ha...leave it up to you to acknowledge what I said. ;) Actually, I thought Zach would do okay against Kofi last year and Dickinson, but was a year early. Yes, FTs which rarely happen with 3 pt shooting was huge...as was sitting Kofi for a while. By the same token when Kofi was out there was a bit more sag and pushing on Zach which softened up the perimeter and then Purdue found a few 3 balls. Sorta like a Frazier fight to the mid section to drop the gloves. ;) I'm still troubled by Purdue's play towards the end of games or OTs...and didn't really understand why in Wisconsin with Davis scoring at will, and Curbello scoring at will, why there wasn't much attempt to deny them to ball which would also eat 5 seconds or so on the clock. Oh well, it was the fight we all wanted to see from Purdue and perhaps the tone is set for the rest of the season...

when edey gets his footwork down then he is unstoppable. there are times when he looks more like Lurch and puts up an ugly shot. pretty good game today especially early on. sasha hit his 3's today(yay) but was only 5 of nine from the line which is unusual for him. glad we finally put them away in 2ot but could have won in reg or 1ot.

Edey wasn't ready for Kofi's physicality last year. What a difference a year makes. Tre appears to be intimidated by Kofi and gets taken out of his game.

I don’t think SS is as good a FT shooter as the numbers show. I’m always skeptical when he goes to the line and it’s a smaller sample size than others. He doesn’t hit all net as frequently as he should for being a 90% FT shooter. Glad he made up for his misses with the numerous big time 3s though.

Yes, I just thought Edey was the best shot last year due to size...and a double yes on Trevion being intimidated every game by that presence. Trevion at that time needs to use his quickness to get deep. If you don't have strength to win...win by being quicker...

In limited time last year, I thought Edey outplayed Kofi head to head, so it was no surprise to me that Edey dominated him this game.

What surprised me and no one seems to have noticed is that IMO Illinois played better without Kofi.

There is no doubt about that, and, felt the same during the game...to the point that I really did not want him to foul out.

Not just that, I felt like Purdue almost had a sense of relief whenever he was out.
