Two nights ago I watching the Purdue-Pitt game and the announcers pointed out that Swanningan and Cline were the #1 and #2 vote-getters in the last Mr. BB for Indiana. Both came to Purdue. Has that ever happened before? I cannot recall it in recent memory, but perhaps I am wrong. If it did happen previously, was it ancient history?

This may make a statement about why TC is in trouble. mathboy has pointed out that his sources have told him that Crean is disliked by HS coaches in the state and that it is one major reason why Crean recruits outside Indiana a great deal. This idea has been challenged by the Peegsters, notably (lackof) courtsense, but this past year's results certainly give weight to mathboy's thesis.

I just wondered if this thought occurred to others.

Well, the last time we got an Indiana Mr. Basketball was Robinson in '91. I have no clue if we got the runner-up that year, but doubt it. So it must have been before that...

I think the "official" voting records for #2 were first tracked going back to something like '88, but the IHSAA "aficionados" can confirm. Only other time I know of is 2006 with Oden and Conley going to Ohio State.

The previous runners-up that I know of who attended Purdue were Maynard Lewis, Brandon McKnight, E' Twaun Moore, and Terone Johnson.

Allen Henderson went against Robinson for the state title that year, and Robinson likely won Mr Basketball as a result of that state title. Henderson of course played at IU.

yeah, PU got '64 Brady, '65 Keller, and '66 Mount. Don't know the runners-up for those years, but 3 in a row in the UCLA dominate years.

I guess you could also add 1961, with Dick and Tom Van Arsdale going to Indiana, because I think they were also co-Mr. BB's.
