Hard not to do, coach

Another good observation. The top ten WBB class is going to take some time to evaluate and unfortunately they are in the unenviable position that the MBB was in last year in that the only direction from the bottom is up. Hope WBB improves because it was unwatchable last year. I couldn't even watch it on TV let alone attend a game in Mackey.

In WBB we used to be long and strong on the inside and have dead-eye shooters along the line. What Happened? I agree with you that last year's version of the WBB team was painful to watch.

Many throw the blame on the most obvious target, the head coach. Some of her good qualities get dismissed and some of her shortcomings get exagerated. I see much the same skewing with those who criticise Painter. There is a nugget of truth in the criticism, but it is magnified inappropriately.

Did she suddenly forget how to recruit, and how to coach? Recruiting had the same sort of fall off that we saw in the men's program, at almost exactly the same time period. That dark period seemed to coinside exactly with the previous adminstration reign. What happened during that period to throw all our major sports into the crapper? Ugh!

I... I'm ... I'm not even sure what we are talking about anymore. haha.
Well then .. let's just derail and turn this thread in to something better:

This thread is so full of ignore now, and this gives me a nice heaping of forget. Much appreciated.

Eat it sonny. I was a Purdue fan when your daddy was just a wet dream in his father's head. I also am a sizeable contributor to the JPC and will likely continue. I will also continue to criticize poor achievement by OUR teams and question or second guess poor decisions. Bryson and RJ certainly were not 4-5 star recruits and it is unfortunate the way they turned out no matter WTF the excitement was coming in. I looked up the kid from New Albany, Donnie Hale, who I have consciously tried to forget. I really though he got a bad deal and/or bad evaluation from MP in that he was sent to prep school because we didn't have a scholly and then got red shirted upon arrival and then played a year and got dumped. He likely would have been eligible for SS by the time he graduated had he stuck around. As for me being a troll, you can KMA.

Bigohh, sorry but your statements about Donnie Hale are grossly inaccurate. Your inaccurate statements will most certainly draw criticism from others. Either you didn't follow Hale's story closely, or you are exagerating and inaccurately presenting "facts" to support some sort of arguement that places the blame on Painter. I can't tell which, but maybe it is time to back off from this position.

Ronnie Johnson was a 4* recruit, Bryson was a high 3* on some ratings and a 4* on others.

No worries. People can get spun up pretty easily on here and sometimes it's just time to kill a thread.

This topic has been argued for a long time and by now a person's opinion is not going to change until something dramatic happens. Regurgitating it time and time again won't change things either. But, it is what it is and all is cured with whiskey and beer.

Sorry but that is hilarious because Notre Dame has NEVER respected us. I lived in South Bend for over 20 years and not once was there ever a time Notre Dame "respected" us.

In fact, I do believe the whole Digger comment was based off of wanting to play at ND first when in reality they should of played at Purdue first as part of a series (or something like that). Had nothing to do with a fear of playing us at all, but rather like ND in football was based in arrogance.

I guess though that if this is the level of things that the Painter mud-slingers have to resort to, then their material is getting refuted and they are running out of things to overly-criticize him on.

Wait a minute.... are you really trying to assert that Digger's "no roads to Lafayette" line was not being to used to justify the fact that he was ducking Purdue because he was afraid of Purdue basketball. Are you really making that claim? You are either too young to remember that time or you are manipulating facts (ie lying) to try and prove your point. One way or the other, you are full of sh*t.

I found this article right off of blackandgold.com where Digger admits that he didn't want to lose to Purdue (along with IU) in the same season. It's Digger's quote. Are you gonna dispute Digger's own words?

Back in 1995, Phelps was caught on the defensive by Vitale as an ESPN panel previewed the Purdue-Wisconsin-Green Bay first-round NCAA Tournament game.

Vitale predicted a Boilermaker victory and noted that "Digger 'No Roads Lead To West Lafayette' Phelps" might disagree. Vitale challenged the former Irish coach as to why he would never play Purdue.

"I just didn't want to lose twice in (the state of) Indiana (in the same season)," confessed Phelps as he quickly changed subjects. Phelps' Notre Dame teams annually played Bob Knight's IU teams as Phelps was and continues to be a good friend of the former Hoosier coach.

I thought you were full of it this fall after you predicted after the Illinois football game that Purdue would go 6 and 6 and go to bowl (If I remember correctly, I think you still made the bowl prediction for Purdue after the Wisconsin game).

But for you to state that Digger meant anything other than he was afraid to play Purdue is absolutely incorrect (in Digger's own words). You either are completely unknowledgeable (as you bowl prediction for Purdue would imply), or you manipulate facts to prove points you know are not true. Either way, you have no credibility, none. Call me and other people "mud-slingers" and talk about, ironically, "the levels things ... have to resort to" all you want. You have no credibility. Anytime from now on when we disagree (and we will), I'm gonna reply "Digger, no roads to Lafayette"

First off, I have been anything but in favor of Hazell and the staff so immediately you are wrong there.

Secondly I know what I said is actually quite correct as Gene himself also mentioned what I said at one point I do believe. What is funny is that you also left out this important part:

"We haven't felt a real obligation that we're supposed to play every team in the state or region," Heisler said.
" (Digger's) feeling has been, 'Hey, if we're obligated to play everyone in the Big Ten, why don't we join the Big Ten?" --- so basically that supports what I said.

So sorry, the only one that has no credibility on here is you friend. You can reply however you want, but it won't change that fact. If you think you are going to get under my skin, I have news for you, you would be wrong yet again.

I'll discuss basketball rationally with anyone and do constantly on here, but when all you do is sling unfounded mud and reach for things to gig Painter on like you've done here, then you have no foundation to preach from.

If you want to act civil and discuss the state of basketball then great I am all for it, but you are going to get what you give on here and my "credibility" (which is hysterical to begin with that you think I care what a internet forum thinks of me) is just fine thanks.

Sorry dude but you're wrong on this. I have no truck in this fight but I remember the whole who gets the first home game being brought up as a reason as well. I think there is merit to what you are saying, but there is to what BBG said too. Basically you both are probably right.

Now stop acting like 12 year olds.

You are probably right. What is funny is that my original response to him wasn't even that inflammatory, but when backed in a corner people get defensive I guess. Oh well no worries, it's not worth the effort if people want to be stubborn and short sighted.

I've posted this before but you are the lion:)

Aesop
THE LION AND THE ASS

One day as the Lion walked proudly down a forest aisle, and the animals respectfully made way for him, an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed.

The Lion felt a flash of anger. But when he turned his head and saw who had spoken, he walked quietly on. He would not honor the fool with even so much as a stroke of his claws.

Do not resent the remarks of a fool. Ignore them.

Ha.. Brilliant. It'll be easy to ignore them soon enough, looks like I'm heading back overseas which means I won't be here much if at all for a while.

Keep them all straight and in line Gem :)

I'll be the reserve in your absence. I pray everything goes well for you, my friend.

As the father of a soldier. Be safe and do what you need to do.

God bless.
Thank you for your son and his service. I'm lucky that I'm in we will say "support" now and won't see any action, but I do get to meet a lot of my brothers and sisters in arms and like to bring things from ho.e to give them when I go over. Someone did that for me when I was on the front lines and it is my honor to pay it forward.

Anyway long winded post to say thanks and thank you for your son's service.
