hanner and davis kicked of team

finally they got it right

No, they should have got it right last year and booted Troy, HMP, and Yogi. Maybe then, the rest would have gotten the message. Crean was forced to boot these two....to make room for two more to come...Maker and someone else.

Personally, Crean should have gone with them.

I agree should have been done last year. That's why I said Finally. They are still Loosiers and Crean created this problem (not the drugs and drinking) with no rules and enforcement. They got what they deserved

Dj Byrd was given a third chance, as were others for Purdue. No way that Yogi should have been kicked off for a fake ID. Troy was treated fairly. I get the impression you miss Coach Knight.

Third chance? Byrd was arrested for public intoxication. That was his only problem. He sat out the next game which was his punishment that was known publicly. Who knows what else went on behind closed doors. Painter gives a second chance and third time, they are off the team. Always has been that way. Please provide evidence to the contrary.

Jimmy is confused. He thought he was on Pegs.

Jimmy, Knight's got nothing in this. Troy has had I believe two instances but when he did his, no one needed to be Creaned. IMO Tom Crean is the same as Kelvin Sampson with the exception that Sampson was and is the better coach. There has been way too much of this going on at IU under Crean, and I'm sure more on the football team there as well under Wilson. It's gotten out of control and needs to be fixed. By Crean allowing it to continue with no punishment, or at the most as slap on the hands, he's become the enabler. Now figure out who's going to back up your new center.

I really do think this means IU is getting Thon Maker. Cream wouldn't do these things without that ulterior motive.

Do you have proof of the football team or are you just casting your wide net of IU hatred to cover everything? I believe this is where Arb759392875 usually steps in and demands proof of someone's claims.

As IU fans, we're all tired of the off season stuff, as a PU fan, I have no idea why you care.

You should try to go a day without fixating on IU...

Guess this is probably where I get banned again.

It always makes me laugh when we have pigsters come over to a PURDUE forum and tell people to stop fixating on IU. Put down the doobie so maybe you can see the hypocrisy in your post.

Actually there is proof. And I didn't start this thread by the way. As for being "fixated" on anything, I'm far more fixated on watching Purdue challenge for a B10 title this year and make a long run in the NCAA tourney, while kicking Crean's ass for the fourth time in a row.

GLOOMINGTON (April 20, 2015) – An Indiana University football player has been suspended after police arrested him early Sunday on misdemeanor battery charges.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers were called to the 1300 block of North Lincoln Street around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, where they were told someone had assaulted a woman. The suspect was identified as Ralph Green III, a defensive lineman for the IU football team.

And if you want to take it further, look at the IU baseball team's woes with the former coach's son.

And it's widely known in Bloomington of the "issues" surrounding Wilson, your "All-Star" coach.

As easy as it is to dislike Crean because of self-promotion and his used car salesmen personality Knight was worse just for different reasons.

At his best he acted like a petulant child after losses and dealing with disappointment (leaving and not speaking at his player's senior night because they lost). At his worst became violent (kicking his own son on the bench, grabbing Neil Reid by the throat hard enough to leave marks).

As bad as Crean is I've never heard him do anything that could be considered criminal in nature where there are plenty of examples for Knight.

Yogi should have been kicked off the team for attempting to use a fake ID? That's quite a stretch.

Most programs have internal rules, and the public has no idea what they are. I assume that some sort of no tolerance policy was in place for these two, probably for prior issues that were never revealed, and this incident was their last straw.

Hanner gone hurts us defensively? Did you watch any IU games last year?
SNU, you'll forget all about HMP when Maker plays his half season and becomes a "member of the family". Honestly, the loss of Davis (if he were to recover completely) hurts way more than losing A-Hope's finest import. AND.......had Yogi been in the room would he be gone from the team too?

I already posted here that I don't think Maker is worth the trouble. Can't be sure on Davis, he showed potential his freshman year but it's tough to say how he would have been when he was fully healthy again. Either way, I wish both kids the best and hope they make better decisions in the future.

They are fortunate to be in Indiana. In Illinois it's a felony to have a fake ID

Honest question: If Davis and Hanner had been busted two months ago, would Robinson and April / Hoetzel still be on the team?

BIG Purdue fan here. Let's be honest about this. IU did the right thing here and they should be given credit for it. You can't have it both ways. I am not a Tom Crean fan but I applaud the move. It will hurt his team to lose Hanner. It may even affect his tenure if it causes IU to lose a few games they should have won. He chose to do the right thing. He could easily have copped out and said Hanner didn't know it was in the room or suspended him for preseason games. We've had a few issues at Purdue with bball players so let's not get all superior about how we only recruit saints in waiting. We've given players multiple chances as well. I never thought I would say it but "Good job Coach Crean." And yes - I vomited a little in my mouth when I said it.

I doubt that this was totally Crean's decision.

I applaud IU for making the right decision. I'm not particularly convinced that Tom Crean himself made the decision. I could be wrong, and if it indeed came down to Crean being the one to pull the trigger, then yes I will applaud him. Until something comes out that confirms that though, I'm going to choose to believe that this was a Glass / Administration decision.
Make no mistake. Crean wanted those two back next year. He is one ankle injury away from having the exact same results next year as he had this previous one.

And that ankle injury better not be to Bryant.

Yep, I don't care about it but why are you here showing you care what people here care about? Look in the mirror, Vankettleblack.

Appreciate you posting that. Any way you slice it, it's an unfortunate situation at the moment. Unforunate for the kids (but maybe best in the long run that they learn there are consequences), unfortunate for the team that now has holes to fill (but maybe best for the program culture long-term), unfortunate for the families that now must unexpectedly help fund a college education (or perhaps the players transfer to another team), etc. I don't expect your post to break the board record for number of likes, but I think it's fair. Crean has received all the blame (and deservedly so) for not giving out stricter penalties in the past (such as HMP's 2-game DUI suspension), and I think it's only right he get the credit for the discipline handed out here. Sure, it's possible one day down the road we learn that Crean didn't want to boot them and begged Glass for mercy on them and his roster, but until then, I'm going to award him credit for the decision. And for full disclosure... my name won't be found at the tippy top of the Crean Fan Club member list. He's made some dumb moves over the years, but I'm not taking anything away from him for yesterday.

SNU, I have a legit question for you, or any other IU fan coming over here....I've read no where that HMP was found to be smoking weed, only that "he was in the room with Devin Davis". So, if he wasn't smoking it, did Crean and Fred Glass simply see this as an opportunity to open up another scholarship? Please provide info that says HMP was "inhaling".

Well said. He was a hero for every loser moron who had no other outlet to in their pathetic lives. Knight said and did whatever he liked, critics be damned. It's ironic that Crean was most loved when he was trying to mimic Knight. Running up the score at Mackey, trying to fistfight an assistant coach at Michigan, ect. Now he is blamed for every no-win situation like this Davis/Hanner deal.
Being their coach is a tough gig. You have to balance the needs of the actual college grads who want their school to be known and respected across the country with the remnants of the hillbilly Bobby Knight contingent who lives by the mantra: win at all costs, and if you can be an epic douchebag in the process, even better. Unfortunately for the school, the latter group keeps the demand for tickets and merchandise up, which means ESPN will come to Bloomington and get on their knees at any sign of success. It's going to be a long year for Mr. Crean.

Telling lies about Purdue players to make yourself feel better proves our point about you, little brother.
