IMO Hammons is, when you look @ both sides of the ball the best center in the B1G hands down.

But Haas .....Who says this guy is the 2nd best center in the B1G?

If not, what improvements do you need to see for Haas to earn that designation?

You could be right, but Diamond Stone is going to be a force at Maryland also.

Haas needs to:
1) Catch and be stronger with the ball....lots of drops last year or fumbles when hit with contact.
2) Keep the elbows in and down
3) Be patient with the ball, but strong with it and look to kick out or finish at rim all under control.
*Note: IMO he rushed many shots last year and just threw them up.
4) On defense, move the feet better and don't reach or bring the arms down...make them shoot over.

He is young...I think we have at least 2 more years with him at Purdue, I hope 3......he will learn all the above and be All Big Ten very soon.

If I remember right, all of your points were pretty much the exact things said about AJH around the same time frame. Hopefully Haas makes the same improvements AJH did.

Also what AJ and Haas do that drives me nuts is when they catch the ball and then wait for the defense to be able to get set. They need to know what they are going to do when they call for the ball-it doesn't get easier letting the defense adjust.

I haven't seen Stone; what do you like about his game since you believe he will be a force?

He will probably get more minutes than Haas(by default)...so it will be interesting to compare the per minute production on the two.

Here is ESPN's scouting report on Stone:

Strengths:
Stone is a very skilled post player. He can score with his back to the basket with jump hooks with either hand, power drop step and turn shots. He can face and straight line drive and knock down the open 3 with time from the trail spot or wing. He is a good area rebounder and on ball shot blocker as well. Stone has great hands and very good footwork for his size. Stone is a good teammate and a willing and good passer. He is also very unselfish. Stone looks to be in good shape and is carrying his 250 pounds extremely well and he seems to be more explosive and has better stamina. He will demand a double team on the high school level on every catch in order to stop him from scoring deep in the lane.

Weaknesses:
Stone will need to play with more energy and work to keep his motor running throughout the game. He will need to work on his rim running as well. Stone will also need to learn how to post deep in the lane and not play so upright which allow the defense to push him off his sweet spot. He will need to also maintain his conditioning on a year around basis. At times he does finish through contact as consistent as he should.

Bottom Line:
Stone is a skilled center that can score in the post in a variety of ways in addition to facing. He is a go to guy demands a double team and a high major prospect.

I haven't seen him either. I have just read that he is a stud and the top incoming freshman for the Bigten. Which is saying a lot since there is a couple other 5 stars and high 4 stars coming next year. He is headed to a loaded Maryland squad so I'm not sure how much he'll will be featured compared to Hammons and Haas, so that may hurt him statically numbers wise. We'll see.

Stop putting the ball on the floor when he catches it in the paint
This goes for everyone on the team. I am so freaking tired of it. I don't know if it's being coached (which I can't fathom why) or if they are just seeing it in the NBA as a power hop move type of thing and think it's smart, but for hucks sake I've never seen them do anything good after getting the ball on the interior and putting it on the floor for one bounce instead of going up strong.

Yea, all that and one thing for sure ..... & most of all -- he needs to destroy a few iu players this year....Dawson them over lightly you know....

1. This is a mindset. When he has the ball, he must think no one can take it from him.
2. In my day, to hold onto the ball you kept your elbows out and if someone reached, you accidentally took their head off. Later it was a foul to swing elbows, but I thought it was okay to twist body with elbows out. What is the new rule?
3. This will come and I see major improvement this year. This will also be a big difference in his FT %.
4. Again he is a force underneath altering shot and getting d rebounding position. He will learn more about team d and be a much better shot blocking presence.

I see Haas getting more minutes with AJ sliding over to the 4 at times, as I see AJ continuing to make great strides too. Edwards will get a few minutes at the 4 too and everyone including CS will be pushing each other.

When the officials give Haas a bit of respect and actually learn how to call the game with him in there, then Haas' confidence will sky rocket. I think his confidence kind of hit the sh*tter after some of those games. Some of it was his fault and he put himself in the position to be called, but some were just horrible calls against a large man. His best years are yet to come. Gotta hit those FTs.

Wouldn't it be great if he could work on the free throws and get up to around 75%? That would make the insects pay.

Msu also has a fringe 5 star center coming in. I would say Haas is like #4-5 in the league.

Isn't eyepoke coming back for another year too? He is pretty good despite the obvious

I'm not sure I understand. Because MSU has a "fringe 5 star", he must be better than Haas?

Yes they are. And they are also the same things people said about Jujuan Johnson (at least I remember thinking them about him). So we are in good shape of he is teachable and will stay with us a few years.

No, but seems pretty presumptuous to assume Haas will be better than every other center in The conference. Just throwing out other guys who may be deemed "better" by the end of the season. Haas will not be the starter so he will have less time to prove himself this year than guys on other teams.

I think Haas ought to grab each rebound, bring it immediately to just below his chin, with both hands, elbows straight out, not swinging them, and anybody unfortunate enough to catch one of those elbows in the head should quickly learn to not be that close next time. Also, the refs need to realize that just because Isaac is bigger than everybody else in the arena he does not deserve to be pounded on by the opponent.

Woodbury's a senior this year. I'm sure Pit has loaded up on goggles futures.
