Haas playing soft.

Take Haas out. He kills the flow of the offense and then he can't get back on D when he hedges.

I just liked that Isaac wasnt getting the minuted he probably wanted but he wasnt on the bench pouting all 2nd half. Isaac is all about matchups there will be games like this one and then there will be ones where he goes for 20+. Just glad he is a team player

Not a good game for him today. Glad we didn't give him much time in second half. I think I saw a GBI tweeted that he was -19 at one point in the gamr.

I speak of slow 7 footers. Even Scheffler was a bit of an underachiever.

He was Big Ten Player of the Year and Third-team All-American his senior year...Id take that any day. Did he have some limitations? sure....but IMO, he got the most out of his ability and seriously improved over his collegiate career.....Gene Keady should also get some credit for that, but SS worked his ass off to get there.....again...JMHO

Tough day for Isaac Haas....no matter how big/strong you are, a shot to the face doesn't help. I believe he'll learn from this......he has a great attitude....but his role may still be evolving....he's making some little strides on offense, but defensively is tough for him right now, I agree.

Last year Haas looked great against the cupcake teams when he was 6"+ taller than his man. Everyone was saying to keep AJ on the bench because we didn't need him. Haas was scoring at will in those games but was stifled when he played better opponents. This year it's been the same thing, however, when Haas has looked good it hasn't just been scoring. He's been passing well out of the post and reacting quickly to doubles. Today he forced some bad shots in an attempt to make things happen on offense. On D I can't blame him too much, he had to rotate to Farrell who we made look like mvp years Steve Nash in the first half with his penetration and passing.

I understand that Haas is going to be a liability at times on defense, but especially when good teams go small he needs to be a matchup problem on offense. We've seen him have games where he looks masterful in the post. He just needs to stop rushing, and react to what the defense is doing and he'll be fine.

Very much agree .... He had knack for positioning to score with limited athletic ability. Haas has to make quicker decisions when he gets the ball. Needs to flex the defense back by returning the ball back a little more often.

Whatever. He's still soft. And it's not like he got punched by Tyson.
I'm not going to defend Haas he was not good. But that punch he took was just that. A full force palm punch right square in the nose. Can't believe they didn't even look at it. Now as for the rest, I still want to see deeper post position from him to improve his offensive efficiency.

I was on the third row yesterday (unfreekinbelievableseats). The other teams game plan is to flat beat the shit out of Haas when he touches the ball. They should have called a flagrant intentional on a couple of plays. The fact we may be better with the "small" lineup would lead me to tell Haas to be super aggressive and let the chips (and arms, legs and other body parts of the opponents) fall where they may. He fouls out...so be it but the other team would be feeling some pain.

Ha. I had never thought about this strategy before but I kind of like it. Maybe when we played Villanova he should've knocked Hart to the floor a couple times when he came into the lane and that might have had an effect on things. He got called for cheap fouls on drives a few times in that game anyway. Might as well earn them.

I think Georgia St. employed a similar strategy earlier this year. They seemed to foul if Haas got good low post position even before he received the ball. The idea seemed to be that it was better in the early part of the half to force Purdue to inbound from the side than give them 2 easy points at the rim. Ultimately, they accumulated too many fouls and it cost them the game, but it was a closer game than most expected it to be.

He doesn't even have to have ill intent. I think in general refs reward aggressive play anyway. The man is BIG.

Hmmm John Chaney/temple style for Haas ? (ratcheted down a few degrees!)

I agree, as long as the aggressiveness is still basketball aggressive and not just for the sake of crushing skulls:eek:.
I need to look at it again but my memory is that Haas was not getting good, deep, post position. He seemed to let Colton push him out ten feet from the rim with no fight whatsoever. If he battles for a foot on the block Colson would have had more fouls trying to push him out and Isaac would have made more shots, both helping the cause greatly.
If a big does his work early, everything we all see (from when he gets the ball onward) becomes much easier for him.
