Indiana HS Head coaches for mens' bball, women's bball, football, and volleyball must be licensed teachers AND teaching in the corporation in which they coach. Other sports, not so much.Yes, I know....back then I was going to coach and in Indiana you had to be a PE major. Employment with a P.E. degree and conversations wiht research engineers at Cummins led me down a different path...hence i became a lay coach. Today, I'm not sure I would even need the waiver for basketball.
So it hasn't changed. Could do all but head of mens...not sure mawby was teaching the last few yearsIndiana HS Head coaches for mens' bball, women's bball, football, and volleyball must be licensed teachers AND teaching in the corporation in which they coach. Other sports, not so much.
He may have been an admin? I think that qualifies too. Or be a PE teacher with one class??? Ways to get around the rules??? I knew Jim Caldwell well ... Seems like Mawby was in the halls in the latter days?????So it hasn't changed. Could do all but head of mens...not sure mawby was teaching the last few years

Ha - I suspect that Principal was all they needed for Dean of Men ... he could have played OT on most NFL teams ... maybe he didyeah...dean of men or such...
not sure if he was still employed at Kokomo when he coached Lewis Cass (Kitchels school) or Taylor where Jon Custer coached in the 80sHa - I suspect that Principal was all they needed for Dean of Men ... he could have played OT on most NFL teams ... maybe he did
Basil had to be employed within the corporation in which he coached.not sure if he was still employed at Kokomo when he coached Lewis Cass (Kitchels school) or Taylor where Jon Custer coached in the 80s
I'm sure you are correct. I just recall "something" that was much different than a usual coaching move. I'm sure it was legit or other coaches would have filed a complaint..or even parents of a player not playing as much under Basil or playing a lot and wanting to score more...Basil had to be employed within the corporation in which he coached.
