2014: Now-seniors Isaac Haas, Vince Edwards, Dakota Mathias, P.J. Thompson ... and Jacquil Taylor. Remember, he came in with that group. Hard to beat, 5-deep.

2008: "Baby Boilers" E'Twaun Moore, Robbie Hummel, JaJuan Johnson and Scott Martin. Still my favorite in the clubhouse.

1966: Rick Mount, Tyrone Bedford, 7-foot Chuck Davis, 6-10 Jerry Johnson (relative giants back then). Weren't eligible to play till their sophomore seasons.

1992: Glenn Robinson, Cuonzo Martin, Matt Waddell.

2015: Biggie all by himself. Ryan Cline also.

Got more?

In the 80's Troy lewis, Everette Stephens, Todd Mitchell, and Kenny Williams (I think was in that class) was one of the best.
That class was Troy Lewis, Todd Mitchell, Everette Stephens, Jeff Arnold & Dave Stack, and juco Robert Littlejohn. Kenny Williams was a juco in the 90's.

Thanks for the clarity. I forgot about Arnold and he could have been a real asset had he finished out his career with the big three!

The class which included Drake Morris and Roosevelt Barnes. Not due to their own play, but rather that recruiting Barnes resulted in us eventually getting Biggie,

The one after Morris/Barnes had a couple shooters, Scooby Scearce and Keith Edmonson (San Antonio TX High School and drafted #10 in the 1st round by the Atlanta Hawks in 1982).

As soon as I hit "post" I remembered the 1984 "Three Amigos" class. I'd put them way up there.

Robinson, Martin and Waddell came in '91, also with Brandon Brantley and Herb Dove, I believe.

Going completely off memory, I thought that Waddel was in the '90 class, but redshirted to begin studying pharmacy. Martin, iirc, was also originally part of '90, but went to prep school for a year to become part of '91 with Robinson. I believe that Brantley and Dove were part of the '91 class, but both redshirted at some point and played on all three Big Ten champion teams.

years ago on teh cover of Black &Gold was Brantley, Robinson and Henderson. Brantley committed first, Robinson second and then Henderson went south. There was a lot of interest in Henderson and people at Brebauf thinking he may be a Boiler, but IU won out and then the interest moved to Mr. Basketball with Henderson going to IU and being from Indianapolis And Robinson being from Gary. Many suggest that Robinson's dominating performance in the title game led to him being Mr. Basketball and thought that anything less would allow Henderson to get enough votes from Indiana and the IU support in the papers to be Mr. Basketball. Henderson was great...Robinson just a tad better.

Matt Waddel came in with Robinson and played AAU with him. It was Matt's dad Phil that alerted me to Robinson. I had seen Henderson and was impressed and asked his opinion on the two and he thought Robinson was a bit better...he was "meaner" which is understandable coming from Gary and Henderson going to Brebauf and the son of a doctor I think.

FWIW, Matt's father was an asst coach to Larry Angle who was a fraternity brother to Harrick at UCLA and so the connection. Mom was interested in Purdue and I think proximity played a role in that.

Matt and Kyle Macy were two deceptively quick players on the court

Waddell came in with Darner and Trice. They were on the 1990 Indiana All Stars together. Waddell redshirted his freshman year. Robinson came in the next year. He was on the 1991 Indiana All Star team with Brantley. If i recall correctly, Henderson was named to that team but opted not to play and was dropped from the team.

Macy came in the same year as Jerry Sichting. One class with two guard who went on to play multiple years in the NBA.

There was also the class with Jordan, Walls and Parker .

The 7' Center who played with Mount, Keller, & Gilliam was Chuck Bavis. He got hurt and didn't play in the NCAA Final game if I remember correctly.

Bavis was injured in our first 1969 NCAA tourney game versus Miami of Ohio and missed the remaining 3 games.

Very easily could be that...just remember when he started playing. I was thinking Matt had left Western and went to Tipton and was a soph in the 86-87 year, but that is because I got the Purdue 86/87 team mixed up with the 87/88 team (myu own timelines) and now realize that matt wasn't a sophmore in the 86/87 year at Tipton...but I guess he was a sophmore at Tipton during the 87/88 year...junior in 88/89 and senior in 89/90. Those years seem so long ago for this feeble mind ;)

I went to a Purdue Gold&Black intrasquad scrimmage at Gary Roosevelt in late October of 1990. Waddell played in that game and scored 10 points. Robinson was in his senior year at Roosevelt and in the stands. https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1N1-108530A41756F3CC.html
I checked my 1993-94 Purdue basketball yearbook and was surprised to find out that the 1991 recruiting class actually consisted of Glenn Robinson, Brandon Brantley, Cuonzo Martin, Herb Dove, Todd Foster and Kenny Williams. Only Brantley and Martin played during the 1991-92 season. Dove, Foster and Williams all red-shirted. Williams was a juco transfer but an NCAA rule required him to sit out the year. Brantley subsequently redshirted during the 1992-93 season.

Baby Boilers...a class featuring 4 top 75 players, is something I wonder if we'll ever see at Purdue again...

sigh

I won't mind too much if this current team can top the Baby Boilers' best NCAA results

We have our own Fab Five this year, only its made up of five 4th year players

so being a senior in 89/90 at Tipton would equate to the intrasquad game in the fall of 90 as a freshman. I didn't remember Brantley redshirting...forgetful I guess

Probably the best two guards to come in the same year in PU history?

If I remember correctly Chuck played a really good game in the first game at Mackey vs.Alcindor.

Purdue played UCLA in the first game of the season at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA won by almost 20, but Mount had PU in the game at half and it was competitive. Chuck was OK. Then they played again, but for the NC at Freedom Hall in Louisville. UCLA won by 22 or something like that and PU was never in it. Chuck would have helped there, but I don't think it would have turned the game into a PU victory. The two teams played the opening game of the previous season at PU to open Purdue Arena, that was later named after Guy "Red" Mackey. Chuck did really well in that game. Still wish he could have played in the NC game. I was at the game at Wisky where he broke his collar bone. Never noticed the injury during the game, just know he didn't finish it. Was surprised to learn of the injury later. Our team beat a very good Marquette team in the regional final. It might have been a blessing that Chuck didn't play in that game because we played a smaller, faster lineup and needed it. Just a thought.

The summer of 1969, I worked with a guy named Jesse who was a friend of Herm Gilliam. Jesse told me that after that first game in Mackey he was in Gilliam's room when Alcindor showed up. Alcindor started complaining about Bavis, calling him awkward because no matter what he (Alcindor) tried to do Bavis was in the way. Gilliam responded by asking Alcindor something to the effect of wasn't that what Bavis was supposed to do and shut him up. Alcindor had no comeback, just glared at Gilliam.

I thought the game in Mackey was the same year they played UCLA in the NC game? A sub named Tom Sweets hit a jumper from around the top of the key to win it for UCLA.I loved The Rocket but I always thought he shot the ball a little too soon thus giving UCLA the last shot?Chuck is on the board sometimes maybe he can comment? Loved watching that team play!

The game in Mackey was the opener of the 1967-68 season. In 1968-69 Purdue played a game vs UCLA at Pauley Pavilion to open the season. UCLA won 94-82. Purdue ended the season playing them again in the NCAA championship game.

Chuck Bavis, of course. Spell check "corrected" it when I typed it this time as well.
