A former athlete of mine. Who I said for a long time DH2 should recruit. He was the best LB on Warren Centrals last state title team a few years ago. He also won the wrestling state title at 195. Well Indiana State offered him. He’s been their best defensive player the last two years. He had 110 tackles this year. He sits at about 232Lbs. Wants to be a Boilermaker. Katrell Moss is his name. Does he reach out to the staff or does the staff have to reach out to him?

I’m sure he has highlight tapes. Kid is just a great football player. Finds the ball and always makes plays. We are going to need experience, toughness and leadership added to next years defense. He fits the bill for all three.

Indiana State is Div 1 and as a result, he'd have to sit out a year if transferring. There might be clauses that I'm not aware of that would allow him to play immediately, but that used to be the main rule. I.E if ISU's coach would be let go. He might be able to transfer out without having to sit out.
Scholarships are likely all tapped out and he'd have to be a preferred walk-on or go to fall camp and be one of the players that earns the scholarship at the conclusion of fall camp. Coaches usually reserve a few to motivate the players to perform thru camp.
He should be communicating with coaches ASAP as he could transfer at break and might be elgible right away (coaches and AD would know those rules).

FYI, I'm linking Rob Ninkovich's retirement speech. It is worth hearing it in it's entirity as he tells part of his story that he was a JUCO and tried more than once to get Joe Tiller's attention and it took multiple attempts to get thru to Joe. I'll let him tell his story.

What I'm trying to say is that he might have to be very persistent to make it happen.

No doubt he should contact one of the Purdue FB Coaches, explain the situation, but like mentioned before, be relentless, maybe even the AD’s office. If that young man can play, let’s get him on board!!

Thank God he came to Purdue. IU fans will never forget him as he tore them up two years in a row! Wish he could come back and do it all over again. Thank you Rob!!!

He's a grad transfer so he wouldn't need to sit out a year. There may be a walk-on who currently is sitting on a scholarship that could be pulled for a season for a grad transfer. There are also guys who may be sitting on a half-scholarship/half-academic that could be used for this purpose as well. Lots of options for grad transfers and likely something could clear up in the summer after spring ball when guys see the writing on the wall for their time with the incoming recruits...likely some sophomores and RS juniors.
