has advanced to the semi-finals of the Big South tournament after beating 1 seed High Point in overtime. So, our two bad losses, North Florida and Gardner-Webb, are still alive to make the NCAA tournament. North Florida plays in the A Sun Championship game Sunday.

By the HP was the 2 seed but the 1 seed also got knocked out. Gardner-Webb has a decent shot at dancing and North Florida should easily win their game. If these two get to the tourney you have to think the losses will look a little more respectible.

I don't think either are much of a factor.

You have 2 scenarios after Saturday:

1. Purdue beats Illinois and they're likely in the tournament.

2. Purdue loses to Illinois and they're solidly on the bubble - not because of those losses, but because of losing 3 in a row.

Purdue controls its own destiny - let's win!

I think you're absolutely right about 1 & 2.

But I also think the North Florida and Gardner-Webb performances are important because if we do lose tomorrow and end up "solidly on the bubble," as you say, then we need every single positive we can get. Those two games will be seen as bad losses no matter what, but they will certainly look less bad if both teams end up in the tournament.

Moreover, each game they win boosts our RPI a bit, as does each game they play against teams with good records (like High Point and Coastal Carolina). As long as a past opponent of ours is not near the bubble, I want them winning out.

Agree and agree with both of you. The two bad losses come up a lot and rightfully so but I think some of the "experts" will say "they were bad losses but they did make it into the tournament" if they make it in. There were teams getting the bad loss thing for losing to Northwestern and then all of a sudden NW started getting hot and then they weren't such bad losses. Sure losing to NW and these teams are a bit different but I think them making it into the tournament makes the scar a little smaller. Just my take.

Look, no matter how some try to spin those HOME losses to lower level league teams...they were and still are bad losses. They can make the dance, and that's fine, but allowing them to walk onto our court and beat us is unacceptable. Put the twig down and stop swinging it like it's a bat.

On the up side...this isn't the same team by a long shot. This team has gelled, matured or whatever. Especially on the defensive side of the court. I"d rather spend much less time (or none really) trying to embellish losses and take care of Illinois. That's where our focus needs to be....BEAT ILLINOIS!!! Then, we've done everything we can to get an invite.

With as much as the two losses have been brought up by the national heads, I think it's fair game for PU fans to discuss them and their tourney possibilities. These two teams have been "used" against PU for months.....now they may be dancing? Discuss away IMO.......anything that may help our chances is fine with me, and shut the pundits pie holes in the process.

Of course, Purdue needs to beat Illinois, but there is a lot of uncertainty still and when you are right on the bubble, even small factors become big factors when two resumes are compared. Even if Purdue wins today, we don't know how many slots will be lost because of small conference upsets. We also don't know how the subjectivity in the process will impact Purdue. There's nothing wrong with wanting the weak part of the resume to look a little less bad.

With RPI rankings of 167 and 158 we can hardly point at them to excuse HOME losses to them. C'mon man! HOME LOSSES??? Atlantic Sun??? Big South?? Please. I can admit this team is massively improved. Gladly. Y'all need to admit they were embarrassing no matter what they do in a low level league.

No one is arguing whether they were embarrassing or inexucusable...........not at all.

Yeah, seems like I said they were bad losses.

Actually maybe winning one or all the games in the BTT after beating Illinois would be the better "done everything we can" proclamation you make. Or maybe you're satisfied with only beating the Illini. but I'm not. My ceiling is higher than that. I think we should think we can win all the rest of the games and get in automatically but maybe I'm swinging too big of a bat in your mind:) Go Boilers!

Until we play a BTT game, we can't do any "Better". Yes? How about we not get the carriage ahead of the horse? Actually, your "swinging" wildly :) Let's get past the Illini, then talk about the Tourney. And heck yeah, Go Boilers!

Gardner Webb's RPI went up 20 spots and Purdue's went up 2 since yesterday. Not sure if it was a direct result of GW but I'm sure it helped.

If you use that reasoning, we haven't playing Illinois yet either. I hear what you're saying but we know we are in the BTT tournament so that is part of the equation of "everything we can to get an invite." Not jumping the gun just being realistic since 1 + 1 = 2 known games...and I feel, even more. Actually the tournament could end up being just as important as this game depending on how things go for other teams in other conferences and their tournaments, upsets can cause havoc on who gets in. I don't feel I'm swinging wildly saying we are going to win the BTT. I truly believe it, not just using one of my wishes that I saved up. I think we hit a bump the last two games, have learned something from it, and now we are going to run and peak. I hope you feel the same. Go, Go, Boilers!

Oh no, now you are swinging wildly with a twig also. I wonder if they'll go up if GW wins their tournament but then I guess that is jumping the gun since it's not happening right this moment. TIC

Look Gem, we play Illinois to-flipping-day...ok? Good grief. Those losses are in the books and bad. I'll worry about the tourney after today. Get it? I'd like to see IU and NW win today as well as us winning. In the big picture....but that's TODAY.

I'm glad "you" will worry about the tournament then. I feel better now. I still feel the quote "everything we can do to get an invite" includes it, and I'm sorry it riles your feathers but other people have opinions also. They can express their views without anger. You actually started this with calling people out...Sorry you don't like it when you are challenged on your call out. Go, Go, Go, Boilers!

How could this simple post result in such an argument. The point was only that all the talking heads, who throw up those two losses from December would have to recognize at least that they are tournament teams. Yeah, they are bad losses none the less, but hopefully in the future there will at least be an asterisk. geez

Yep. Sorry I got involved in it. Truce to Boiler-Deuce...We're on the same team and want the same outcome.
Let's win today!
