Furst

Great 2nd half for Caleb for sure, but we really need to get our 2nd 5 going again. Gillis should go back to starting with Furst helping the 2nd 5. TKR and Newman need to be sparks off the bench again. Need more from Jenkins as well. But I’ll take 11-0.

Need to put Loyer with the second unit, looks like he is pressing and jacking up a lot of shots. Would be better with lane open.

Caleb was great in the second half, glad that he’s showing that he can play alongside Edey. I got no problem with Gillis starting but I think Furst needs more of the minutes going forward. Minutes wise it should be Edey-Furst-Renn-Gillis in my opinion. Also, is Gillis that slow where he can’t play the 3 for some minutes? Same with Renn?

Gillis would be awesome providing his leadership to the second unit or as a 6th man playing the 3 or the 4.

We are better with Gillis starting. He has a legitimate outside shot and plays tougher.

You might see Mason Gillis back starting in time for Rutgers on January 2 or maybe Painter does it the game before. Painter was speaking to that a little bit post-game, takes a little bit to work back into rhythm.

We have many players with supposedly a great outside shot. If they keep missing what we need is Furst to get the rebound rather than having the 4 take outside shots! We don’t need 4 outside shooters! What we need are three who can make them!

Actually it’s quite the opposite. Your argument suggests 3 shooters with the 4 to rebound the misses. But then you state you need just 3 to make the shot. Operative point that they need to make the shot. Therefore it’s better to have 4 options to make that shot than 3.

This sounds like the caller into Matt Painter’s show. I thought it might have been.

Gillis won’t start again this year. Furst will start the rest of his career at Purdue unless injured

I dont know if Renn deserves more minutes than Gillis. He is very streaky and sometimes out of control. I think Renn's minutes depend on the night. Gillis and Furst should consistently get minutes. I think Furst needs at least 20 a night

I would really like to see Painter experiment with a big line-up. He has the horses. But I have been hoping that for several years, and the weakness has always been defense. I wonder if any of the 3 big forwards quick enough to handle a 3.

I think the logical thing would be to shift Gillis down to 3 and reduce Waddell's minutes.

Gives a lineup of
1. Smith 6-0 180
2. Loyer 6-4 185
3. Gillus 6-6 230
4. Furst 6-10 215
5. Edey 7-4 285

I would like to see Painter try that lineup. But I'm beginning to feel like those people who for years have said that Painter should use a zone defense. Not gonna happen.

Painter laughed when asked about Gillis playing the three replied NO just NO.

It might not be a bad idea to save a few zone defense schemes for the tournament just to show a different look for a few possessions.

You and I will not have our wishes granted, I'm certain.

Hey.....you never know what supernatural forces may be at work...... :)

I said that last year. I have learned to never count out Gillis, he does all of the dirty things, rebound, defend, pick, ect that doesnt always show up in a box score that coaches like CMP just love.

Honestly I love Furst and Gillis's games both,
