Gone are the days of AD's having a list of names in their desks...However it says the coaching search might take a bit longer

Absolutely.

That way everyone can maintain plausible deniability when the press ask all their stupid questions while the coach is still coaching his current team.

"Coach Fleck has had no contact with Purdue, and Coach Fleck's agent has had no contact with Purdue."

Coach Fleck's agent could be on the phone all day with DHR, however, and the statement remains true.

Yeah, I don't think we were paying a firm to really come up with names for the job like a normal job search. They were hired to deal with agents and negotiate a preliminary deal.

So far, I got to give M Bob credit, he's playing the game really well and leaks seem to be pretty much nonexistent. It seemed with Burke, when we ended up with Hazell, pretty much everyone knew what was going on, we knew every time we got turned down, we knew as soon as the plane left for Kent State to go get Hazell. This time around, seems we will not know much until M Bob is ready to announce, though I imagine it will leak a little earlier as someone will notice a coach missing and spotted in West Lafayette.

It's almost like M Bob knows what he's doing.

In fairness, it has leaked out that it's highly unlikely to be Miles, after being the "rumored" front-runner for a while.

Is it really a leak, when if we were hiring Les we would have done it weeks ago?
On what basis could you definitely conclude that it would have happened weeks ago if it were going to happen? I mean, wouldn't it have been pretty disrespectful to Parker to hire and announce Miles while CGP was still interim coach? Also, unless the money from Purdue was all but guaranteed to surpass anything another school would offer him, it would have been rather silly for Miles to rush into Purdue without giving consideration to what other jobs might come open.

Its not that disrespectful, I mean its kinda expected. I don't think after losing 3 games that Parker thought he would become the fulltime hire. Obviously he would finish out the season as interim, but We could have hired Les weeks ago and had him recruiting. Which is 10000x more important than parkers feelings.

I can appreciate the "feelings" remark, but agree to disagree. Regardless of whether Parker ever expected to be a real candidate in the off-season, you don't hire another coach to don a Purdue hat and go out recruiting and glad-handing while CGP is working his ass off trying to make something out of the nothing that is the football program right now. You just can't do it. If you want to hire the guy, tell no one, and announce it the morning after the bucket game, I'm fine with that. But to do what you're suggesting would be the ultimate dick slap to Parker.

Any coach who would have taken the job prior to season's end had to have been completely desperate. If I'm looking for a job, I want to know what all is available. That information likely won't be available until this weekend at the earliest. As it stands, Purdue is in a pretty good place right now. There's only 1 P5 job available instead of the normal 6-8 or whatever. That should help in getting a pretty good coach to lead the program.
