One of these teams will playing on Monday night for the Championship. Did anybody have one in the final game? Just wow!

Florida to the championship game. Has there ever been an easier path? Hoping Kansas whips them there by at least 33 points! I live too close to Gainesville, almost as bad as living too close to Bloomington.

Florida is such a joke of a lucky school. They are the biggest imposter in college bball.. they probably beat 7 seed sc and then 11 seed xavier to get to the finals. That is unfathomably easy road not to mention the hail mary vs wisc lmao. I hate UF

And just think wait till Football season. That's when they get real annoying.

But I did grad school in Gainesville and can at least have a rooting interest.

Gainesville is about an 1.5 hours from me.

I'm hoping for a Gamecock championship. Maybe a one year run with championships in the state in baseball, football , and basketball would shut up the folks front NC for a while.

This is just another reason why its stunning people put so much value on a stupid single elimination tournament. The NCAA tournament as a metric to determine the success of a program is one of the worst deciding factors someone could possibly come up with. Did you see Jay Wright last year after his guy made the three to win the game? He brushed it off like it was nothing b/c he new it proved nothing. Nova just happened to make a some what lucky shot to beat UNC that night. Doesn't mean they would beat them again in 10 tries but they won that night.

Seeding is incredibly dependent on the whims of several people who think they know what they are doing. Purdue is playing in the title game if it was in the West or East bracket this year. Instead it got an absolute powerhouse that would hang with some NBA teams for a few quarters.

Don't get me wrong, Painter and the team needed to get to the sweet 16 with the talent and team they had all year. He definitely has become a better coach and has finally risen from the Ronnie Johnson years. But as you all can plainly see, the deeper you go, the more of a crap shoot it is except for the 2 or 3 teams stacked with NBA talents.

A lot of people in my extended family picked Gonzaga to win it all. I just hope the title winner isn't from the Midwest or South regions. I know some here want to see Kansas win to validate how good they are but I always root for the underdogs or teams that haven't been this far before or in a long time (South Carolina is as far as it's ever been in the NCAA Tournament now).

I can't stay objective watching these games after Purdue is out (which is always unfortunate): I always root for one team over the other. I would like to see South Carolina or the winner of Gonzaga/Xavier become the next national champion. Unless you're a fan of a blue-blood program, it is very redundant and boring to the see one of them win a national title.

Part of my brain wants to believe this and does. However, given that hypothesis, with the 87, 88, 94, 95, 2000, and probably a few other decent teams since 1980, you would think just once over that 37 year period, Purdue would have broken through to a FF, just on luck alone, just one frickin' time. The 88 and 2000 regional final losses especially still sting.

Yes it still stings
Keady had the best team in the country that year (88) Damn you Mitch Richmond
94 should have been a final four, damn you late night wrestling matches
2000, Damn you Wisconsin.
So yeah, it takes some luck but damn we've been close.

All the people saying we need players like Bluiett and that's why we lost.....he's 3-13 and 4 turnovers. Sometimes the other team's just better that night.

I think the Big Ten regular season champ should be declared national champ, or at least given a buy to the final four each year. Single elimination tourneys are a crap shoot and our diaper needs changing (okay, not to pat myself on the back, but that was a good one)

There are 68 teams that get a shot. Everyone eventually has to beat a great team to win it. What is your alternative plan? Musical chairs? Cake Walk? Plinko?

The whole point is that the success of a season and program should not hinge on the number final 4's that a coach or program has in my opinion. Consistency within conference and overall record should be considered the dominate decider for the status of a program. But the NCAA doesn't work like that.
Lets play a hypothetical. Say Painter got to a final 4 once in his years here but his average finish in conference is 8 or worse and he only made the tournament in 50% of his years. Would you take that? I wouldn't.

To win it all yes but not to make a final 4. Did either Florida or SC beat a great team this year? Did Gonzaga? No they didn't. The point is that seeding is a huge factor. The seeding needs to be seriously revamped and the human element eliminated from it completely. There is enough statistical data to seed according to certain metrics and not have the human bias come into play.

rather than the ncaa tourney, what would you prefer to determine a champion and success?
i can't think of another format that would be manageable, as this has also been the format used in high school and lower.

even in playoffs with a series format rather than single elimination, the best team going in typically does not win.
since the mid 90s, the best regular season teams win the championship this % of the time:
45% nba
24% nhl
23% mlb
