First to commit for 2018?

I thought Purdue was in the lead for Trevion Williams

I am not sure MSU lands Johns, Williams, and Bingham. It is, of course very possible, but that would put 4 of their 5 available scholarships on forward/centers with only one guard.

MSU is targeting a few other wings and guards, and right now those are a slightly more pressing need. They would also currently be behind Ward, Tillman, and JJJ although JJJ is likely a one and done, I see Ward running into the same issues as Biggie when it comes to leaving early. That would put 7 of their 12 available scholarships on the 4/5. Meaning what.. 3 guards and 2 wings? I get that MSU may be the favorite, but Purdue is in decent shape with some of the Michigan guys and has immediate playing time to offer at the 4/5.

I think Johns and Jerome Hunter are indeed long shots. But I think Purdue could land either Bingham or Williams. Bingham would be my preference but both would be great.

The list narrows...J. Hunter, Bazley and WIlliams & Bingham (in MSU's backyard and will blow up beyond us by summer's end) on the list below are way bigtime longshots in my opinion. While we have over 20+ offers out some are listed below. I believe you can take off the ones listed in red....and for sure Bieniemy who is now an OKie.

Still leaves over 12+ to draw from. But hopefully unlike the usual year where many of CMP's recruits he ends up with are not on the list below...he lands a higher % of plan A guys due to the 4 seniors leaving a big gap in PT available.

(BTW...I Do not believe some like Jallow, Trapp and Phinisee are plan A Guys so they are in red too....)

1s
Keyshawn Embery 6-2 PG
Jamal Bieniemy 6-3 PG
Jaelin Llewellyn 6-2 PG
Phinisee 5’11”

2s
Eric Hunter 6-2
Robby Carmody 6-4

3s
Damezi Anderson 6-7
Darius Bazley 6-7
Drew Peterson 6-7
Kaden Archie 6-6
Jerome Hunter 6-5
Musa Jallow 6-5

4s
Immanuel Bates 6-9 PF
Marcus Bingham 6-9 PF
Louis King 6-8 F
Trevion Williams 6-8 PF

5s
Dowuawna 6-10
Penn Johnson 7’
Trapp 7’
Timme 6-9”
Curious to hear why you listed Bazley and Trapp as long shots?

Not sure we have been very active on Trapp but Bazley was quoted that we were the first to offer and have been in communication since he opened his commitment.

Purdue still seems to be in play with Williams, Bazley, and Bingham. Purdue has lots of playing time opening up. It will be exciting to see the dominos fall in place over the next few months.

Getting early commits from Anderson and Embery would go a long way. Once the spots start filling up, there will be more pressure to sign early to avoid missing the boat. Bingham is playing like a top 25 type player. An incredible athlete that is also one of the best defenders and shooters in the entire '18 class. MSU will go all in. I am sure Izzo already has the tears working up as he compares Bingham to a former player that's likely in jail. It will be very hard for Purdue to steal him away, but they are in the best position they could be in.

I would be tickled to death to get any of Bazely, J. Hunter and BIngham or Williams. Typically though when these type guys blow up Purdue has not fared well in the past, and they are certainly doing that IMO; Williams though seems to like us as he thinks he and Biggie would share a similar role and turn out similar at Purdue. However, I just do not have a lot of confidence in the straight forwardness of recruiting in general, and secondly anyone out of MICH that comes by and is doing well like WIlliams and Bingham, MICH teams lock up, or if not, basketball folks up there seem to do negative recruiting where Purdue ends up not an option--at least in the past.....I cannot remember when the last guy out of MICH who played for Purdue??

As far as Trapp, I listed him as not plan A guy, certainly did not list him as a long shot. Purdue is interested and it is mutual. Iowa I think is our only real competition. I just think Purdue's PLan A guy at 5 is Dowuawna or Williams, followed by Penn Johnson.

"Wetzell averaged 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds over 31.3 minutes per game this past season. He shot 40.9 percent from 3-point range and blocked 18 shots in 30 games. Flickner said Wetzell faced a lot of double teams throughout the season."

Interesting. Some say this is not "dominating" at a D2 level. I am not sure I agree with that conclusion. l've seen plenty of D2 teams come in and play competitively with D1 teams. The difference is smaller than one might think. Scoring almost 16 points a game and averaging almost 7 rebounds a game ain't chicken stuff. This guy might be a good add to our team. Is he the primary go-to guy, like Biggie? No. Is he the player that might stick back a rebound, or bury a 3-pt for a win? Hell Yes. Does he have skills? Apparently.
