Brings up some good changes and alterations to the kickoff...but got me thinking about an idea:
Why not simply line up as a 'punt' from the 35 and have the remaining 9-10 players from each side line up either on the LOS or within 10 yards but no closer than 5. yards of the LOS. This takes out the gap and speed of collisions while continuing the usage of the play. It would also put an emphasis on guys who can truly cover kicks so you would likely see more and more skill players used to gain an advantage. It would, in essence, be similar to that of the punt after a safety but with no movement by the covering team while the returning team would be required maintain a distance of 5-10 yards from the 35 yard LOS.
