ESPN Article

I know not everyone on this board is a fan of ESPN. However, thought this article was worth posting, haven't seen this positive of a Purdue football article on ESPN in over a decade.

Brohm is really turning heads, let's pull off the biggest college football upset of the year so far this weekend!

Brees says exactly how I felt the last few years:

Count Brees as one of them.

"Listen, it's fun to watch, you know. You want to play good, sound football all the way around, you want to win games, but would you rather go to a game where you're getting beat 13-10 or, if you lose, maybe you just got beat 42-35? At least you are highly competitive and you know that you always have a chance," Brees said. "There's something to be said when you walk in the stadium and say, 'Man, I know we've got a chance.'"

You gotta have that mindset you can win , without it you won't beat any team that is above average. Phillips is a senior, he has been thru the hell of the last few years, the guy knows what the team can do, I like how he thinks. Whatever happens, players like Phillips will lay it out there, that's what leaders do.

Phillips has some swagger to him, But, he just became a target for every Michigan DB tomorrow. Hope he can handle it?

This is exactly what every coach would expect...""It's going to be a surprise when people see us beat Michigan. I wish we played Ohio State, too, because nobody can stop us right now except ourselves," Phillips said. "If we don't beat Purdue and turn over the ball, we win every game."

You have to believe that YOU are the one you are fighting...beating that little guy inside...and if it takes perfection...be disappointed in not being perfect. Play the game, learn and adjust ...the turn the page...

Actually all the receivers are targets , as are Michigan receivers . Phillips was talking team all the way, not singling himself out! I would say Phillips can handle himself fine on the field , lots of experience and wants to win bad his last year.

Like I said, we all want our players believing they can win. Big difference between having that mindset and trash talking your opponent (and one that's not on the schedule on top of that).

Missed the quote there a bit:

'Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth.' - Iron Mike Tyson

And I believe UM hasn't faced a team willing and able to punch someone in the mouth. Florida's offense has shown since that first game to be a bit over rated...along with the fact they were missing a massive number of players due to suspension.

Reading comprehension is not a prerequisite of Wolvereeens.

So, you listened to the whole interview, and not just a few sentences that the author decided to print?

Don't know what other context you think there is for:

"I wish we played Ohio State, too, because nobody can stop us right now except ourselves."

and

"If we don't beat Purdue and turn over the ball, we win every game."

Reminds me of True Grit quote

John Wayne/Rooster Cogburn says... " Ned, I aim to take you in and see you hang"
Robt Duval/Ned Pepper responds... " Bold talk for a 1 eyed fat man"

Please name the starters that were among those suspended?
Air Force?

in regard to Florida their starting running back (Scarlett) and star wide receiver (Calloway) are still suspended I think

What Phillips said can be construed as trash talk but it's really not. Good athletes don't or at least shouldn't play to the level of their opponent. They play towards perfection. And ideally, if a team plays error free, it can win any game - so yes losing means Purdue beat Purdue. Great plays will be made by opponents but that's out of your control so you only focus on what you can do to the best of your ability and see where you are at the end.

Seems like Brohm may not have been a huge fan of these comments by his post-game statements about the team being overconfident.

Absolutely. Brohm wants the confident attitude displayed as performance on the field, not in statements to some reporter.
