First my prediction: Michigan State,s vaunted physical, physical defense is going to be called fouls Saturday because of the name on the jerseys of the team they're playing. The same defense that got them to the Final Four will have Duke on the line all night, and foul out, at least, two state players. MSU loses by double figures. That's my prediction.

You want a good bet (in my opinion). According to Chick McGee on BobandTom this morning, Wisconsin is a 5 1/2 point underdog. That is a huge amount of points, a huge amount. I actually think Wisconsin is the better team, but really, I see it as a 50-50 game, maybe with Bucky having a slight edge. Certainly I wouldn't be shocked if Kentucky spurted out to a double digit win, but really, I wouldn't be any less shocked if Wisconsin won by ten. I just think that's a really good bet.

How may million dollars do you think Sam Decker put on his NBA contract with that regional performance. I would guess, at least, a few million dollars. I think he is gonna be a great pro.

If Kentucky loses, all the hyperbole of the greatest team ever (or even the greatest team in the one-and-done era) will be exposed as just that, ridiculous exaggeration. If they lose to Wisconsin, I will argue that their undefeated season is really a testament of what a joke the SEC basketball conference has become. If they lose, there's no real difference between them and Wichita State last year,

Also, all that talk about greatest team ever.... ridiculous. People who are old enough to remember, and that means you have to be at least 50. I know it's terrible to ever, ever say anything good about IU on this board... but.... but.... does Kentucky even have a player that could have started for that "76 IU team? May was player of the year and an # 2 draft choice. Benson was an All-American and # 1 draft choice. Buckner was considered one of the greatest high school players of his generation and was a # 7 draft choice. I know Kentucky is loaded with athletes (if not too many real players), but are any of them a better athlete than Bobby Wilderson, an #11 draft choice? Do they have a better shooter than Tom Abernathy? I doubt it. So even if Kentucky wins it all, that greatest ever stuff is silly. They couldn't have given that IU team or the MSU Magic Johnson team a game. And they would have no hope against the UCLA Lew Alcindor teams.

I'd say the strength of Kentucky vs those aforementioned teams is the length/strength of their bench. They arguably have ten first rounders between this and next year's draft.

The teams you mention from earlier eras likely would not have been undefeated in today's era. Great talent, sound fundamentals and played together for 3-4 years. Today's scheduling and travel along with the constant media attention would have taken something away from all of them. UK is not going to be the greatest team ever if they run the table. Maybe the greatest team ever in the state of KY but not overall. Because of differences in style of play and mandatory length of college careers it is not possible to truly pick a "Greatest Team of All TIme" but rather a list of them and UK will be on the top ten list of those teams if undefeated. Go back and look at some of those great teams made up of skinny kids that knew how to play hoops. If they got in a physical running game with UK all of them would be pushed. When comparing the past with the present remember hindsight is 20/20 and we remember the past much more favorably than we see the present.

Good point about how it is more difficult to go thru a season undefeated today. I agree with that 100%.

I think those old teams were much more skilled if not as physically equal in terms of defense.

Let's say that we could time-warp teams from the past and play teams in the present. I also made this argument about NBA teams from the 70's playing teams from the NBA now. The big key as to who would win would be how the game was refereed. 70's teams playing with 70's officials would beat teams today. Teams today with refs today would be probably beat teams from the 70's, but on the other hand. Are you really gonna make the argument that that '76 IU team could not play defense every bit as physically as the teams today if they were given a chance to practice and adapt to today's officials?

Can't use any "what ifs" when comparing eras. Sure if given en ough prep time the '76 could play a more physical D but to do it for 40 minutes is not goig to be a quick fix.
