Eating some tasty crow

I'm bitching about a team total of 70 years rushing and last place in the Big Ten for the third consecutive year.
There is certainly a point to be made there but we use our short passing game very effectively as our "run " game. We just beat the #3 team in the country after rushing for 58 yards. We also have a win over the number 2 team in the country when we rushed for 86 yards. Would you be happier if we ran for 150 in each but lost? Enjoy the wins and ease off on the bitching.

If we want to be an elite BIG team, I think we need to be more balanced because weather (ala Minnesota) kills us. Also, teams like Wisky can overwhelm us without a run threat. However, how many teams have wins over the number 2 and 3 teams in the same season this year......or any year?

Exactly. We just beat the #3 team in the country but he is bitching because we did not get enough rush yards. Wow!
While I understand both perspectives he does have a point. Imagine if you will, the passing offense you saw tonight, paired with an O-line that absolutely beats the crap out of the opposing D-line and a running game that popped off for 150 yards. With this defense that’s a football team that would compete with anyone out there. That’s the point. Enjoy where we are, look forward to where we could be with growth in a few of those areas. Big success isn’t out of reach. It can happen at our school. Enjoy today and every day really but for the staff they need to keep those other things in mind too. And I’m sure Jeff does, he knows what a dangerous run game could mean for his team

You must not have read my previous post (up 5 posts). Bottom line is you just beat the #3 team in the country with 58 rushing yards. Now is the time to celebrate the win and not bitch about lack of rushing yards. That can be an 8 page unreadable debate at a later date.

You must not have read my post. I said celebrate today, enjoy today and every day, and let yourself have a little fun imagining a Purdue with what we have today along with a few other goodies

70 years should have a lot of yards! Just sayin’. Just punkin’ for fun tonight. Drinking a couple of strong Sailor Jerry’s and enjoying the win.

We exploited them on the passing game. Got to take advantage of their pass D. Over 500 yards through the air which meant the OL gave AOC time to throw doesn’t sound like the OL was bad. I’ve been impressed with the OL development this year

OL still sucks. We have no running game at all.

Seriously!?

Our rbs ran for 70 yards. Our running game is not even close to good but with our other weapons if we can continue to run for 70 or more we win more than we lose imo.
Big difference between pass blocking and run blocking. I think it's safe to say that the o-line has improved tremendously with the former and is still a work-in-progress with the latter. I think the recruiting has finally caught up to the point where we're no longer plugging holes on the o-line with recruits, we have a stable core and are building to the future, and hopefully the run blocking improves too (which hopefully results in recruitment of higher quality RBs, and so on)

I guess that's the glass half full philosophy. Our worst loss was Wisconsin and the reason was that Wisky put a lot of pressure on our offensive line. Four-man front with blitzing linebackers and our immobile QB was overwhelmed. Hard to imagine why Michigan State didn't do the same thing.

who knows, but let's enjoy the big win. A couple of weeks ago I saw Illinois run for over 350 yds and pass for 36 yds. to beat psu at their place

The fact that Purdue has no running game seems to be a plus, because the coaches finally seem to understand that you are also allowed to throw the ball on first and second down, rather than meaningless plunges into the line for no gain! The only way to improve the running game, would be to make the line splits wider, but that may screw up the passing game. For the time being lets be glad something is working. As I remember, BYU won the national championship relying almost exclusively on passing!
