I watched them a few times and they are impressive, but Purdue looked like they belonged with them.
I also think we could have handled Tennessee.
Cuz we have the best PG in the country! What Braden did was absolutely amazing. Most assists vs Houston all year and I would venture to say vs Sampson since he’s been at Houston.
Loyer also stepped up big and was better than UF guards have been against this Houston defense.
What a fantastic basketball game. I hope Painter can go out and get two wings that are dawgs like #5 and #15 were for Florida. Physically and mentally tough. Loved that game and loved this entire final 4. The four best teams punching each other in the mouth all weekend.

A school whose fans couldn’t even give one shit about the basketball program now have 3 national championships in 20 years. It’s about time for us to win one.
While I agree we need to replace Heide and Colvin with athletes/dudes that can defend, more than anything, this game confirmed for me when Painter stresses taking good shots and having rebound balance and to get back in transition D.
Houston up 1, a bad shot against 2 defenders leads to a fast break with Florida guard (Martin) taking it strong into the body of a great defender (Tugler) trying to get back leading to the foul shots to essentially win the national championship.
If Houston would have been a little more patient to get a good look, they wouldn't have gotten beat in transition. Florida still might have made a shot, but make then do so (vs sending a good free throw shooter to the line for 2).

What helped Florida is their defense is as good or better than Houston. And the fact they've come back from behind so many games this year. Best team won the game.

Florida was SHOOK for a good amount of the game. Houston had Florida’s bigs peeing down their legs.
Also, if Houston shoots their regular 3pt % they win. Need to stop playin this damn final four in a football stadium.

Hope we puck up a power forward to move us to preseason #1 as that would help in recruiting.
Some of the shots that UF guard was chucking were really, really bad. I know he's a great player and made some plays down the stretch but man. But, I also realize the Houston game plan was to lock him up and not give him any looks, which they did a good job doing.
agree on the FL bigs. They would have the ball 3 feet from the bucket and wouldn't go up strong. I think that one big had about 4 turnovers because he just wanted to get the ball out of his own hands.

Purdue noticed that Houston was vulnerable to corner 3s and Braden did an amazing job of getting the ball for shooters in the corners. Was amazed watched the Duke Houston game that Duke ignored that tendency for some reason.
Hats off to Florida - they never quit and kept coming. Clayton had an off night but when he got going, he got going.
Last thing - everyone talks about how tough Houston is. How they dove for every loose ball etc etc - no one with Cougar red was diving for that bone head loose ball Sharp laid out as time expired.

Well said, Beef. Our gameplan was great against them and executed perfectly. It does help when you have a generational PG like smith, tho 😃

In all fairness though, Clayton was caught sleeping on defense (he seems a bit allergic to wanting to play any) and if sharp doesn’t have a brain far and just pump fakes, he gets a clean look at 3. Not sure why they wouldn’t have gone to cryer at the end…

Didn’t say that—although he almost gave the game away by forcing bad shots and having a defensive lapse at the end and was able to recover and sharp forgot how much time was left and didn’t think to pump fake.

Since Sharp hadn’t taken a dribble, just caught it and jumped, couldn’t he have just started dribbling once he dropped it? Or is jumping equivalent to giving up your dribble?

You are correct in your assessment. I watched with my Florida alum daughter and she was just "meh" as the game ended. I told if this was Purdue I would be on the floor in the fetal position, bawling my eyes out and sucking my thumb.
