DraftExpress scout at the game last night

No other program in the country would give him the touches that he gets at Purdue. It's akin to career suicide if he leaves the situation he has now. I think TKR is a Boiler, through and through. If he was going to leave, it would have been last year.
Completely agree. Purdue is going to have to pay these guys, but it’s clear that all three are playing in a program/ system that knows how to utilize them. I’ve said this before, winning will also go a long way towards keeping these guys.

We hear a lot about Smith’s physical limitations and I get that, but if height is his #1 physical limitation I have to say that he seems to make up for it somewhat with his length. To my eyes, he seems to get his hands on a lot of balls with his long arms.

As far as athleticism, I get that he isn’t Jaden Ivey, but he seems to be the quickest player on the court most games. I don’t know that he is actually the quickest, but he seems to have Wayne Gretzky like anticipation, seeing the play before it develops, which allows him to make his move a split second before anyone else.

I feel like there has to be a role for Smith in the NBA. I am not saying that he will be a star or even a starter, but like former Boiler Brian Cardinal, he brings something unique that I think NBA teams will find valuable to have on their rosters.
I'm not familiar enough with Wayne Gretzky, but Braden has a vision and understanding of the game rarely seen. It is also why he is allowed to roam the court on D instead of the typical D (on ball & help). WE have all seen his ability to find someone with a pass. His quickness and change of pace is why he can blow by some people.

What everyone has seen, but perhaps not noticed is his drive towards the baseline with a jumper. He always gets it off and it always has a chance to go in. I will not be surprised in a last few seconds if this isn't a go to play in that the help is all removed to the lane and opposite since so it is only one on one for that shot. Course that "safety" has to be on top of the key so a runout is less possible should he miss and bounce towards the FT line.

I really noticed the baseline jumper last August during the scrimmage. It was really the first time I had seen him pull it out and he was hitting it decently. But it did worry me a bit with the fading away, as you know, that can be a tough shot since body mechanics are a bit off. But it’s his Brad and butter now and completely agree that will prob be the shot (we saw it vs ole miss even tho he barely drew iron).

Naturally, there are other variables at play relative to the D and other Purdue players, but if Braden is normal or better yet ON...I can see this becoming a go to in a last possession game. It eliminates the potential for the ball to not get intercepted or the recipient turning it over. It ensures a shot...which many plays do NOT ensure...and it is probably close to 50% successful. Taken too early and nobody as a safety Purdue would be in a bad position if the offensive players were pretty much flattened along the baseline.

Similar, but even more susceptible to a run out should one not hustle to become a safety is a 1-4 low, where everybody is along the baseline and the guard has the lane to work for a shot. Here because the two players just outside the lane could help you want a player that is going to get a soft shot up...and many times that is a taller player...and need shooters in the corners to hold the D there.

Perfectly said. And also, he’s our best player and exactly the guy we want taking the last shot in that situation.

Here is what you need to know about Gretzky. He did not have the hardest, slapshot, wrist shot, was not the fastest or biggest player. But he was very good at all these things. He had incredible vision and an ability to know where the puck would go off the boards, and when a player would break open passing him the puck in stride. He was not the fastest, but he was quick, agile and a great passer. He saw the play developing before others saw it. Sound familiar?

I'll add that Braden also has a lot of skill. IN just the last game he did a behind the back bounce pass through traffic in the lane to Trey where there wasn't a whole lot of room.

It was a tad unnecessary 😂 BUT the skill to do that in that much traffic…pretty amazing. Hats off to TKR for having the hands to catch those passes too.

No question he added some flair, but the ability to do that still speaks volumes relative to his skill. No question he also was very comfortable out there doing his thing

She’s going to dental school there I believe so it’s speculation that he’s gonna go there too haha
Yeah and he just recently got accepted into OSU’s Med school, so I think that seals the deal.

If he DOES somehow get a fifth year, I wonder if OSU would allow him to defer starting med school for a year ?

Why would he do that? Pretty sure he’s not trying to extend out his playing career.

Just from the person above? He was the class after the Covid class so he doesn’t get an extra year.
Correct, his first year he did get Covid than hurt his foot causing him to miss a decent amount of games, maybe he could petition the NCAA to get that year back? I doubt he’d even want to play another year though.

Despite his illness, he and Purdue (because it's the NCAA institution that makes the application) would not be able to apply for a medical hardship waiver. He played in too many games, and it wasn't season-ending.

There's chatter about a 5th year of eligibility going forward - haven't seen anything where that would be extended to players currently in their last year of eligibility.....but who knows? It's becoming a free-for-all anyway, sooner or later.

And now......back to our regularly scheduled programming - Get Off my Lawn, New Pal! I just planted that bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bench and northern California sinsemilla hybrid mix.

The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

Yes, unfortunately I don’t see that happening, the NBA is a different game. Might as well make bank in college 1 more season. Hopefully, Purdue can pony up, he’ll likely have opportunities from others for a huge payday.
Don’t forget Profit Sharing is scheduled to start later this year. Purdue will be able to pay well due to the Big10 having the most TV money along with other shared payouts due to football playoff and March Madness. Expect the potential of more so called 5 star athletes deciding they enjoy winning along with $$$.

No, heard it from someone closer to the situation.
I’m confused here…

He played in :
21-22 Frosh year - 34 games
22-23 Soph year - 35 games
23-24 Junior year - 36 games
24-25 Senior year - 21 games (so far this year)

A player had to play in the 20-21 season to get a covid year. And he’s played in too many games to even consider a medical red shirt.

So how would he get any type of extra year? Sorry not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand.

I really don’t know. Just heard it was a possibility. Nothing he would sue over, more of a “if it happens, great, if not, off to med school” sort of thing.

They are taking about letting all players have five years of eligibility.
