Rumors are still Donovan...........and supposedly he's on a timeline to let IU know, before they move on to the next possibility. Rumors though, and the fanbase is going crazy (crazier) waiting for any announcement. Soap opera at its finest.
Of course they can....any of these people would likely take the job: Donovan, Archie Miller, Collins, Mack, Holtmann. All of whom would be better than Alford.
I'll take that bet.Cal just had to hire an assistant with no coaching experience because all of their targets declined the overtures.
Coaching searches, or for that matter, the entire concept of a "Coaching Carousel" is media fantasy.
You can take it to the bank if IU doesn't end up hiring Alford (they probably will), the resulting person is going to seem a little random.
Just how it is.
Have no clue what you are implying here. That Mack isn't a good coach? Ok.....Yes, I think I just said that. But for purely the Schadenfreude, I hope you are right and they actually go public with a litany of guys like Mack. I few years ago, Twitter was mostly about making fun of NC State for being hiring morons. It's no surprise that this time around they went quietly to their water level.
IU can afford whatever they need to pay. That much is pretty clear. The problem is that IU fans think IU can afford six million a year but they are constantly in the red. Unless of course they raise the student activity fee higher than it is now.
I don't remember him playing at M $U.Doug is also a former criminal so take his words with a bit of caution.
Lol....please tell all the national media that are talking Donovan to IU. You act like it's only IU fans. I still don't believe it, but I've heard it from multiple national sources. It's the IU media that's being more cautious.Lol, IU has no chance of getting Donovan. The Thunder are going to be in the playoffs next month. He's not leaving that for IU. The other three are more debatable. I have no idea how Mack, Chris Collins, and Holtmann's contracts are structured but I doubt Mack will want to leave if Xavier beats Gonzaga on Saturday to advance to their first-ever Final Four. I don't think Collins would leave right after taking Northwestern to their first ever NCAA Tournament: they would be a very "bad look" for him.
I think Archie Miller and Chris Holtmann would be the most realistic options of the "any of these people would likely take the job" coaches you listed.

Justin Albers claims Donovan was at IU today. The young fellow that got fired by Scout ? Justin I think is his name ? His little story about Donovan landing on a plane in Bloomington really panned out.
LOL I remember that. Peegs tracking his every movement in the sky.The young fellow that got fired by Scout ? Justin I think is his name ? His little story about Donovan landing on a plane in Bloomington really panned out.
You won't be able to get a seat in an Italian restaurant in Gloomington if one the Slick Rick apostles lands there.IU with a Coach from the Pitino tree. Priceless
Clear from where? IU fans always think that Cook, or one of the others will just drop 40 or so million on a basketball coach. If that's true why do they continue to gouge the students?IU can afford whatever they need to pay. That much is pretty clear.
Former students of the IU School of Urinalism often employed by the IU Star. What the hell is IU media?
Mack wouldn't do any better than Crean did. IU needs a HUGE....HUGE....hire this time and Glass has to get it right. So far, those he's hired like the new FB coach leave a lot to be desired.Have no clue what you are implying here. That Mack isn't a good coach? Ok.....
Maybe Donovan sees the writing on the wall. Without Westbrook that OKC job is nowhere near as attractive as it is now. I can see him trying to get out after this year. Maybe not to IU, but definitely somewhere else.Lol....please tell all the national media that are talking Donovan to IU. You act like it's only IU fans. Right now, IU is the biggest opening left. All the good jobs have been taken.Maybe Donovan sees the writing on the wall. Without Westbrook that OKC job is nowhere near as attractive as it is now. I can see him trying to get out after this year. Maybe not to IU, but definitely somewhere else.
Westbrook is leaving? News to me. They can and will build around him.Maybe Donovan sees the writing on the wall. Without Westbrook that OKC job is nowhere near as attractive as it is now. I can see him trying to get out after this year. Maybe not to IU, but definitely somewhere else.
Again, Steve Alford reached out to IU and IU said no thank you. The national media were putting this out because it came from Alford's camp. It was never IU's intention to hire Alford. They got their second choice.Well interesting twist is this going to be round 2 of strike outs on their first 8 choices? Will they settle for a Crean 2.0?
Dane Fife you're up next

Still doubting Miller was interested? He was always the pick, once Donovan said no.Miller might, but I seriously doubt it. He knows that OSU is going to come open at some point in the near future and hes going to be quite comfortable making his 2mm a year a going to the Tournament at Dayton until then. Until then? Nah
Its almost like people don't realize how much money these guys make. Chris Mack makes 2.5mm per year in what amounts to a lifetime deal at his alma mater going to the Tournament every year, mostly as a high seed (in a league that's, frankly, been better). There is absolutely no basketball reason to go from Xavier to Indiana - you are afforded precisely no more chance to do anything. Its ALL downside -- which is what you have to weigh the extra money against. (which is why the No's come -- the increment isn't substantial enough)
CH makes something just short of that 2mm presently but will have a deal just like Mack with his inevitable extension. It's fantasy land. Read this Tweet from Brian Snow (who is essentially a Peegs guy at this point)
@BSnowScout It genuinely amazes me that people have yet to figure out it is really, difficult to get coaches to leave really comfortable situationsWho exactly do you think he's talking to? Does the fact someone like NC State QUICKLY arrived at UNCW's Keatts (after quietly being turned down by the usual suspects) just get lost in the filter somehow? There is a new reality, that's been in place for quite a few years -- hiring coaches is VERY hard (which is why you should probably build a program that actually produces them)
After Marshall, Bennett, and Steve. Fourth choice at best. Steve's said all along that he would never come back to IU. And that is fact.Still doubting Miller was interested? He was always the pick, once Donovan said no.
Alford's camp....sure.Again, Steve Alford reached out to IU and IU said no thank you. The national media were putting this out because it came from Alford's camp. It was never IU's intention to hire Alford. They got their second choice.
alford is making millions and living the high life in ritzy LA....you really think he wants to go to bloomingtucky?Alford's camp....sure.
