Does anyone else have a "Rondale" on their wishlist for Christmas??

Rather than seeing Hunter Johnson return, I'd love to see what Sindelar can do behind an offensive line that can provide him 3-5 seconds to throw the ball and some receivers who can catch the ball! If given the opportunity, I believe Sindelar can prove he is as good as any QB around!

Also...how about Hunter Johnson coming back home?!?

Bigger needs to use spots on than adding another QB.

Sindelar will start the next two years and Plummer was pursued by other Big Ten and Pac12 schools late so he's got some talent. Throw in Sipe and Alstott and I would rather use the spot used on a OG or LB

Clemson recruited the #1 QB in the nation in the 2018 class, Trevor Johnson. My hunch is that either Hunter or Trevor will not be happy with pine time next year and one of them will transfer.

I fully agree with that. I'm just not so sure hunter had any real interest in transferring to Purdue other than he went to an Indiana high school. Since he originally chose Clemson, I'd believe if he left, he'd be looking for another high profile school that would guarantee him a chance to start

A lot of kids get homesick during their freshman year of college.

From what I've heard and seen he had a lot of interest in them

Yes, there was interest there.

I'll add to this thread by pointing out, not only did Clemson add a 5-star QB this year (rated as THE top prospect in all of HS FB), they had another highly-rated QB in Hunter's class, another prior to that in 2016. Not sure if any are planning on transferring, but all are still on the roster.

This thread/discussion is all speculation, and I get that. The idea that we should not consider taking an incredible talent like a Hunter Johnson just isn't rational. If HJ announced today he was transferring, I'd be highly p*ssed if Coach Brohm didn't pursue. What's more, I would fully expect Brohm would be all over that opportunity, in spite of the opinion of some of the experts on this forum!

Hunter Johnson never took an official visit to Purdue nor did he list us in his top 5 final schools. Not really sure how you surmise " there was a lot of interest".

Don't get me wrong, as I would love to see him come to PU if he is considering a transfer but I think all of this discussion is pre-mature. Everything I have seen and read about him suggests he is very happy at Clemson and is prepared to compete for the starting spot in the spring.....................

I would tend to agree. I follow football recruiting a lot more than the games. I saw we made him an offer much like many other players. but I sure didn't see much interest on his part on coming to Purdue.

As for Brohm jumping all over him if he announced he was transferring, contrary to what you believe, I don't believe brohm would jump all over him. That would be something Hazell would do. We already have Sindelar and blough. We have Sipe and Sparks who is tranisitioning because we already have too many QBs. We have Allstott and Plummer. that's 5/6 Qbs already on hand. I can't see Brohm adding another QB to that mix unless he persuades somebody to leave.

No, he didn't take an official visit, but visited on his own, more than once. He used his official visits on other programs. But, yes . . .there was a lot of interest. Not saying we would have landed him, but if Brohm was 1-2 years earlier . . .

Well, define "jump all over him". Do you think he did that with 5th year transfers?

It wouldn't be played out in the media, but you're just not using your noggin if you don't think Brohm would be 'jumping all over' that!

What's more, Alstott isn't going to be a player at QB for Purdue.

And, it doesn't matter who we have on the roster, if he gets a top QB in the nation, he'll take him.

C'mon, brother!

Brohm may be very high on Plummer, but Hunter is a different animal. Not to mention, Brohm likes competition. He would have to sit one year and then he would have 3 to play. Plummer would shirt and have 4, so even if Hunter won out, Plummer would still play at least one year if he stuck it out, assuming Hunter didn't leave early.

There is absolutely no way Brohm doesn't check for interest. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and would have started for all but maybe 10 teams this year as a true freshman. When he did play, he absolutely shined. If Purdue lands Moore, I think that makes Purdue much more intriguing. Moore has NFL speed in a Pro style offense.

Hunter has made no public indication of wanting to transfer, but if he does, Purdue absolutely is a dark horse to win him over. I would understand it because that roster is absolutely stacked. If he has NFL aspirations, 3 years in Brohm's system has to be appealing. It would also be a huge pull to keep Brohm at Purdue. Tough to walk away from that kind of talent at the QB position.

Regardless, I do hope Hunter wins a ring with Clemson. But, it would be cool to see him do that and then come to Purdue and win another.

*slow clap* . . .

Well said. Exactly right.

ok playing devil's advocate.. Brohm is loading up on quality receivers. To me that means he truly wants to air it out next year. Saying that I would expect Sindelar to start with either Plummer or Sipe backing him up. I don't have confidence in blough ever being a big time passing oriented QB. .

So let's say Sindelar or Plummer starts next year. I believe with our new receivers, either QB would be very successful.

if hunter were to transfer, I believe it would be after this year and not next year. if he transfers, he'd sit out next year. Do yo u believe if Sindelar or plummer has a great year next year, that brohm would open it up for competition the following Spring, and start Hunter over a current QB who had a great year? if Sindelar has a great year, I can't see brohm benching him just so he can start Hunter. I also can't see Hunter transferring to Purdue just so he could be Sindelar's back-up.

Hunter would be a great addition, but Brohm already has his car and his driver. I highly doubt, he'd trade them in after one year for a shinier model.

I would be incredibly shocked if Plummer starts next year at any point barring major injuries. If Blough is still around, I believe he is the backup.

Plummer is enrolling early, but I would be shocked if he beats out Sipe and Blough (provided he sticks around). I am not even ruling out that Blough is the starter next year. If CJB had him for 4 years, he would likely be all conference with a shot at being drafted. He is a gun slinger that is going to make mistakes, but he is a very good field general. Unfortunately, there were a lot of terrible habits to break.

Blough was the starter last year, and he pulled him for Sindelar several times. It was open competition. Sindelar got himself pulled several times this year. It's a bit presumptious to think CJB would all of a sudden change how he views competition. If Sindelar does well next year and starts all year, he would be eligible to transfer the following season if the writing is on the wall that Hunter is going to take his spot. I don't think CJB was fully happy with either QB, so it would take a massive jump to call Sindelar a lock over one of the best QB prospects in the nation. Do you honestly feel like Sindelar is a top prospect? I don't. I think he has a long way to go for that.

My feelings are simple and unwavering here. If Hunter comes to Purdue, he starts for 3 years (unless Purdue makes a run at the playoffs and he leaves early). I think Plummer will be an excellent QB and even if Purdue doesn't land Hunter, the future looks very bright as they add better weapons and OL. Plummer could be next in line for successful QBs from Purdue. You still don't turn your nose at Hunter. If he calls, you pick up that phone and ride on out to see him.

Goodness gracious, dude. . . I like both Blough and Sindelar, but statistically Blough is a better QB than Sindelar. You can play the "yeah, but" games all day long, but there's nothing to suggest we have a "big time passing oriented QB" currently on the roster. We might, but there's nothing there to indicate it. Sindelar's stats don't show he's it. Yet.

And, yes, there's no doubt in my mind Brohm would open up the QB position to competition. I don't care if he had Drew Brees, you better d@mn well believe the QB position would be open to competition. It's in his (Brohm's) blood!

Brohm does not have "his car and his driver", and to suggest such a thing is ridiculous and indicates you haven't been listening to Brohm. If he can bring in a QB that's better than what he has on the roster, the new QB will play. PERIOD!

We obviously disagree. let's look for some common ground.

if Hunter were to leave Clemson, I believe he would leave after this year, and he would look for a team where he could start for 3 years. if hunter doesn't leave Clemson after this year, do you believe he would look to transfer after next year and have only two years of eligibility?

I think Blough is gone to be honest with everyone. Although the ankle injury appears to be healing faster than any one expected, the fact that Sindelar clearly got better with more time should not be dismissed. The reason that Blough was given the reigns was because of a porous OL and mediocre WR’s. Those problems appear to be fixed for next season. When coupled with Brohm’s comments about Sindelar’s ability to tear a defense down if he had the right players around him speaks volumes.

My personal thought:
Starter: Sindelar
Backup: Sipe/Sparks (Wildcat..used more if Sindelar goes down)
Third/Scout: RS Plummer

Blough: Transfers and is eligible immediately because of his graduation in three years.

Enjoying the banter here, so I’ll add one more point to ponder for anyone who questions whether Sindelar can be a big time passing QB in a fully understood and manned Brohmffense.

He broke almost all of Tim Couch’s (SEC player of the year, consensus AA QB, NFL #1 draft pick) HS records in KY. You don’t do something like that, regardless of HS class level, without some serious passing credentials.

Contrarian view;

1. Blough bleeds old gold and black and loves his team mates, coaches, fans & school
2. Blough has made more life long friends and impacted local community more than most individuals who were born in the state-that includes you "JohnnyDoeBoiler"
3. Blough does not owe Purdue a thing. If anything, Purdue University, his team mates and fans owe Blough their undying graditude for what he has been thru and endured for 3+ yrs.
4. Finally, David Blough is no quitter and has never backed down from a challenge-EVER

I like Blough, and it appeared early in the year he was much better than Sindelar at moving the ball, although his forte was a short passing game and running the ball. Early in the year, every time Sindelar would come in, the offense would sputter.

However, in the last three games, the offense started to click and be in sync We'll see how much progress it has made against Arizona.

I find it inappropriate to speculate on Hunter's intentions at this point since he has not commented (that I am aware of). I would just assume their current starting QB will start next year in his senior year and Hunter would be in good position to start his RS-sophomore year moving forward. And if he were to want to transfer, it would likely be to all but guarantee to start, I don't think he gets that at Purdue.

Keep in mind, he would have to sit out a season. This will be Blough's last year so he is irrelevant to this conversation. If Sindelar starts next year and shows any significant improvement (in his skills not stats as we expect better receivers and more passing), it will be hard to move a different direction.

Before anyone transfers here, can Brohm ask them “if you get hurt Playing football here will your mother run onto the field?”

that was the last millennium. Today it would be his health insurance agent, lawyer and his advisor (who's receiving no pay until he graduates - of course) . and his mom would be taking selfies.

But doesn’t your third point sort of make my point? Blough doesn’t owe Purdue a thing. He hasn’t been anything less than an ideal teammate, student, and member of our community but he isn’t technically a graduate and his time (if he chooses) at Purdue could be done.

I don’t want Blough to transfer as he provides amazing depth at the most important position in football...but I can’t see a guy like Blough sticking around if the writing is on the wall in his final season when there will be programs lining up to take him for a single season....and likely some of those being programs that would be a great situation for him to play in a P5 program and start without much competition.

You are so off. You didn’t add mom would be taking selfies in a glitter filled matching team outfit with a big hat and matching Ugg Boots.

I know for a fact that Blough plans on staying at Purdue, working toward a Masters Degree and playing football in the spring.....

I believe we showed Rondale what our offense can do, and what our future game plan could be. if he can catch the ball, he could be a stud.

and after watching our secondary last night, I am reminded that Anderson is also a gifted DB.

I read Blough also wants to be a coach. that tells me he's very knowledgeable about the game, and that he's probably talked to Brohm about his future, and is very aware of his own limitations.

Blough is also very community oriented.

From everything I've read and seen about Blough after his injury, I can't believe he would ever transfer. he may not start again, but he is a true Boilermaker.

and after last night, I'm tempted to say .... Hunter Who ?
