I realized that I did the detailed recap on the premium board and since I do not work for GBI in any kind of fashion it shouldn't be behind a paywall- so for those of you that missed it and might be interested in the play-by-play (to the best of my ability) here it is.
-Bottom bowl is currently 80% full. Cushioned seats are close to 100% full.

-Edey is tall

-looks like no one is sitting out due to injury

Gillis starts 1st scrimmage on the bench.

Thompson
Ivey
Sasha
TKR
Edey

Vs

Hunter
Newman
Morton
Furst
Trevion

Sasha banged his knee and comes out less than 60 seconds in

Hunter is guarding Ivey

Ivey with the splash for 3

Ivey’s team is white- Trevion’s team is black

Morton with the nice steal and scores 2 after Ivey blocks his shot for a goal tend

Sasha is back in!

Morton playing some point now- draws a foul on Ivey

Ivey with the nice drive and finish

Newman picks Ivey’s pocket-
On the way back Ivey gets fouled as he explodes to the rim. Going to the line for 2 shots. Missed the furst. Made the second.

Newman SPLASH
Next posession Newman nicw finish at the rim around Edey

Black leads 11-8 at first timeout. Pretty competitive so far. Ivey, Morton and Newman probably the standout players so far.

TKR makes first of two free throws- Edey with the rebound and putback

Yeah he’s been in. Took a charge from Edey but it was called a block. Ivey with a moster dunk just now.

Morton blocks TKR’s jumpshot from behind. Newman makes another 3

TKR has missed a couple of 3’s that were all but in.

TKR SPLASH

Haven’t seen Thompson makes any mistakes but hasn’t done anything noteworthy that I have seen (I’m missing some things while typing)

Gillis for 3!

Black wins 21-18

Quarter 2 lineups

Black:
Hunter
Morton
Waddell
Trevion
Edey

White:
Thompson
Ivey
Newman
TKR
Furst

Gillis on white bench- Sasha on black bench

Hunter steals ball from Thompson and takes it all the way for 2

Waddell SPLASH

Twin Centers lineup is up 7-0

Furst misses the furst of 2 free throws. Makes the 2nd one

Trevion with a nice turnaround jumper over Gillis

Furst SPLASH and Ivey just blocked Edey

Newman SPLASH. It’s now 9-7 black

Sasha SPLASH

Kaufman with a nice post score on Edey. Gillis adds 2 more

How is @IUhaterade able to type on his phone and watch the game at the same time?

AAAAAMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZINGGGGGG!
Same thing I do when watching games on TV lol

Thompson SPLASH

followed be a 2 from TKR

followed by a dunk from Edey

Hunter drives down the lane for a one-handed slam

Everyone is looking competent or better than competent

@IUhaterade Are you seeing good Offense or bad Defense? Or does it just sound that way?
Some of both. The twin towers lineup is punishing the smaller unit but it can’t defend then effectively either.

Sasha with a nice fake and make

Trevion’s 3-pt attempts have been ugly

Can you do this for the football game this afternoon and every basketball game this season?
No, lol

Newman with a long 2
Edey with a dunk

You’re doing a hell of a job!

Ivey with a pro-level drive and score

TKR SPLASH

Can you do this for the football game this afternoon and every basketball game this season?
Mostly just doing this because I am here and it isn’t on TV. I work a lot of Saturdays

Mostly just doing this because I am here and it isn’t on TV. I work a lot of Saturdays
Much appreciated

Edey with ANOTHER shot. Probably has 10 pts this quarter. Team black up 27-25 with 2.6 seconds left

Ivey misses a desperation half court shot. Team Black wins

Quarter 3

Black:
Morton
Ivey
Newman
Furst
Edey

Waddell on bench

White:
Thompson
Hunter
Sasha
TKR
Trevion

Gillis on bench

Hunter steal and assist to Sasha for a SPLASH

Trevion great back door pass to TKR for a layup

Newman good look down to Edey for 2

Trevion continues to miss 3’s

TW makes 2 of 2 FT’s

Waddell with a good drive and layup

Furst makes 2 free throws

Sasha for 3

Anyways- a lot of people have left over the 10 minutes and to me eyes the cushioned seats are still above 50% full

Team Black up 12-0

Furst makes 2 more free throws

Furst was around 80% from the line in high school I think. Don’t want to look to next year for anything yet but I will say if Edey and Furst are making their free throws at the 5 like they can then purdue could be one of the best teams in the nation from the line. IT, Newman, and Gillis are all great from the line and I’m assuming all 3 commits are good since they’re all over 40% from deep. I know Loyer had the best % in the nation at one point

Furst with another 2 made free throws. 6 for 6 I think this qtr

Gillis for 3

Then Newman for 3

Ivey with 2 made free throws

Hunter with the 2 point splash from the elbow

Hunter nice dish for a TW point blank 2

Newman with a sweet lay in

Sasha SPLASH

followed by an Edey dunk Ivey assisted

Sasha assist down to TW for an easy 2

Edey pass down to Furst for a dunk

Gillis makes 2 FT’s. FT shooting has been strong this qtr

Ivey makes 2 FT’s to extend blacks lead to 27-24 with 7 seconds left

Black wins 27-24

That’s all folks. I’m outta here

Ivey, Hunter, Gillis and Waddell top finishers in the first suicide run lol

Buy that Waddell stock
He looked pretty efficient on the offensive end. I didn’t notice his defense but I can’t imagine it is up to par with his frame

couldn't make it, but you are talented to watch a game and write that much. Curious if they had football coverage on the scoreboard and if people were leaving to watch the football game?

There was no football coverage on the scoreboard. I bet there would have been if Purdue Football had a noon game- but the scrimmage was completely over before 3pm and Purdue game did not start until 3:30.

I was lucky- there weren't enough people there to render my cell coverage useless. Usually anytime I am in an Arena I get nothing- but my phone was lightning fast for once.

The bigger problem I was running into was the GBI 30 second delay between posts. I had to start doubling up on some of them just so I wouldn't run into that lock out so quickly. Woulda been nice if it was only 15 seconds for that- but I get why it is in place.

I would be horrible on a play by play.

On TV or Radio I probably would be too lol. Speaking is not my strong suit. I always wanted to be the statistician
There were a couple of times some coaches asked me if I would ref a scrimmage to help them out. I was horrible! I spent too much time seeing what the players were doing and trying to correct things, instead of just watching for rule violations.

Do I think I could be a good ref? With a little bit of training and practice- yeah.

Would I ever ref a game for any less than $1,000/game? No way lol

There is a reason why spouses of coaches and refs rarely sit around the crowd if another choice exists. Actually, football at the high school level might not be so bad. There are many players...and a ref can throw a flag or not every down, and the players are farther away from the crowd...and in this state there is less fan knowledge on football than basketball

Interesting...not that a single day determines much but it did show that Isaiah was always opposite of Morton and that "maybe" Trey's value was estimated a bit high in comparison to some players...all speculative. What I do find iteresting not being able to make it or see the stats soon was the initial photo's by Rubberfoot on the scrimmage.

Not counting, but when I first saw those it appeared to me that Ethan was in a lot of pictures and naturally assumed he was involved in a lot of things on the court. Winning all the games without a huge stat line supports being involved in a lot of things not measured with stats. Can you imagine if Ethan ends up playing a lot of minutes the turmoil between acceptance and rejection of the prefiguration of player impact and minutes of preseason? ;)

I guess it's fun to look at but I would not put even a penny of stock into the records. Trey looked really good- but we have such a deep team now that regardless of who was on what team- the other team was really good. I think all records whether 0-3 or 3-0 was just pure coincidence. All 3 games were very competitive as well. No blowouts. iirc, they were all single possession games in the final minute.

Plus we were playing zone half the time so it wasn't real basketball for us....I was watching individuals versus team....it was obvious edey was the mvp due to the attention he commands in the post....Newman was leaner and quicker, definitely looked like a different player this year...tkr is a lot like vince, very skilled and has a nose for the ball...and of course Ivey was great, most athletic player painter has had.....those were the standouts.....everyone else was solid, looked improved from last year....

Yeah I certainly don’t think they mean much, but in past years the coaching staff noted individual records in scrimmage.

theoretically, after 100 games with varying lineups, would you pay more attention to records?

The one thing I think it may show is perhaps Morton’s eclipsing of Thompson. They appear to always have been on opposite teams, with Morton getting the better result each time.

agreed on those being the 4 players that stood out the most- disagree that Newman is leaner unless you meant that he has put on more muscle and therefore has a lower body fat % than last year. I suppose that IS what leaner means- but something about that makes it sound like he is lighter- which I don't think he is. He looks stronger to me. More mass in his limbs.

Morton definitely had more notable moments throughout the scrimmage. Of course it would have seemed more equal if IT had made more of his shots- and that probably would have also made a difference in the records.

I wonder if the records were the basis for how many suicide runs each player had to do after the scrimmage. At least they don't have to touch the floor at each turn anymore. The way they do it these days looks much easier.

He's quicker....looked more decisive in what he was doing, made smart decisions, shot it with confidence....he looked impressive....he probably is stronger but not as bulky.....

Ok yeah- I can agree to that. This might be the season where Ivey cements himself as a top 10 pick but Newman breaks out as a future pro as well.

yes, the only thing that was obvious is that IT and Ethan were never on the same team

no surprises for me...especially Zach and Brandon! Good to hear on Brandon. Let's go Brandon!
